    PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF GEORGIAN LOCAL ELECTIONS: BY PROPORTIONAL SYSTEM NATIONWIDE, “GEORGIAN DREAM” – 46.74%, “NATIONAL MOVEMENT” – 30.68%

    Georgian Central Election Commission published preliminary data (from all polling stations countrywide), according to which more than 1.8 million voters took part in local elections in Georgia on October 2, making up 51.92% of the total number.

    By proportional system of voting, ruling Georgian Dream received nationwide 46.74%, United National Movement (UNM) – 30.68%, For Georgia (the party of ex-premier Giorgi Gakharia) – 7.79%.


    US EMBASSY AND EU REPRESENTATION: LOCAL ELECTIONS WERE WELL-ADMINISTERED, BUT THERE ARE FACTS OF VIOLATIONS, BRIBERY AND PRESSURE ON CANDIDATES AND VOTERS, POLARIZATION HAS HARDENED

    The US embassy and the EU mission in Georgia released statements in connection with elections in local self-governance bodies, held in Georgia on October 2.

    As the US embassy indicates, high voter activity was recorded in the elections, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

    IN 2020, BUSINESS SECTOR’S TURNOVER INCREASED BY 4.9%, WHILE OUTPUT DECREASED BY 2.7%

    Sakstat reported that total turnover of Georgian business sector amounted in 2020 to 114.3 billion lari. If compared with 2019, the volume has increased by 4.9%.


    IN 2020, TRADE LED IN BUSINESS SECTOR’S TURNOVER, WHILE MANUFACTURING – IN OUTPUT

    Sakstat reported that in total turnover of Georgian business sector for 2020 (114.3 billion lari), trade (including repair of cars and motorcycles) accounted for the largest share – 37.9%, or 43.4 billion lari. If compared to 2019, turnover of this sector has increased by 0.9%.


    IN 2020, AVERAGE NUMBER OF EMPLOYED DECREASED BY 7%

    Sakstat reported that in 2020, average number of employed in Georgia made up 703,900 people. If compared with 2019, the number has reduced by 7%.


    DRAFT BUDGET-2022: TAX REVENUES – 23.5% OF GDP, BUDGET DEFICIT – 4.3% OF GDP

    Today, Georgia’s Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili disclosed main parameters of the state budget-2022, the primary draft of which has been already submitted to the country’s Parliament.

    The document envisages real GDP growth of 6% in 2022 and of 5.5% in subsequent years.


    STATE PROGRAM ON ACCESSIBILITY OF STATE-OWNED PASTURES HAS BEEN APPROVED

    Georgian government has approved today a state program on accessibility of the state-owned pastures, reported Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture. The program will be implemented by Georgian National Agency for Sustainable Land Management and Land Use Monitoring.

    “SAKARTVELOS BANKI” TO BECAME SPECIALIZED DEPOSITORY FOR PENSION AGENCY

    Georgian Pension Agency declared about signing on October 1 of agreement with Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia) on provision of specialized depository services. Selection of a specialized depository allows us to invest in local and international securities, the Agency noted.
