MEDIAN SCENARIO OF “GALT&TAGGART”: IN 2020, GEORGIA’S ECONOMY WILL DECREASE BY 2.7%
Galt&Taggart, investment arm of Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia), estimated 3 scenarios of impact on Georgian economy of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the optimistic scenario, which assumes economic decrease in March-May, being changed with recovery in June, growth of Georgian economy in 2020 will make up 2.1%.
IN Q1, VOLUME OF CARGO TRANSPORTATION INCREASED BY 11% Y-O-Y
Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that the country’s cardo transportations in the 1st quarter amounted to 3 million t. If compared with the same period of 2019, the volume has increased by 11%.
IN Q1, FREIGHTS PROCESSED IN SEAPORTS AND TERMINALS INCREASED IN VOLUME BY 23% Y-O-Y
Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that 1.6 million t of freights were processed in the country’s seaports and terminals in the 1st quarter. If compared with the same period of 2019, the volume has increased by 23%.
IN Q1, CONTAINERS PROCESSED IN SEAPORTS AND TERMINALS INCREASED IN NUMBER BY 24% Y-O-Y
Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that 56,409 containers (TEU) were processed in the country’s seaports and terminals in the 1st quarter. If compared with the same period of 2019, the volume has increased by 24%.
IN Q1, PASSENGER TRANSPORTATIONS INCREASED IN VOLUME BY 1.9% Y-O-Y
Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that Georgian transport system transported 26.8 million passengers in the 1st quarter. If compared with the same period of 2019, the volume has increased by 1.9%.
PAPERS OF GEORGIAN SEAMEN TO BE AUTOMATICALLY EXTENDED FOR 6 MONTHS
Proceeding from restrictions, introduced because of COVID-19 pandemic, seamen papers, which validity expires until September 1, will be considered as automatically prolonged for 6 months without need of official application, Georgian Maritime Transport Agency declared.
As the Agency noted, the decision was notified to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
