MUNICIPAL TRANSPORT RESUMED OPERATION
Operation of municipal transport, as well as work of educational and preschool institutions, was resumed in Georgia today. Restrictions, imposed by the government in response to the COVID-19 outbreak, have been in effect since May 3.
FORMER VICE-PRESIDENT OF EIB BECAME GEORGIAN PREMIER’S ADVISER ON FOREIGN INVESTMENTS
On May 7, Georgian government announced that Vazil Hudak, former vice-president of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and former economy minister of Slovakia, will become special adviser to Georgian Prime Minister in foreign investments direction. Hudak will work to mobilize support from foreign public and private sectors for the new economic strategy of Georgian government, reported the government’s press service.
TWINNING PROJECT WITH PARTICIPATION OF NBG AND POLISH UKNF IS COMPLETED
National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that a concluding video conference was held on May 6 within the framework of 2-year Twinning project, which was funded by the EU and implemented by Polish Financial Supervision Authority (UKNF). The project with a budget of 1.75 million EUR aimed to strengthen NBG’s capabilities in the field of banking and payment services, as well as to improve financial supervision mechanisms.

GEORGIA NEGOTIATES POSSIBILITY OF NEW PROGRAM LAUNCH WITH IMF
Today, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with Selim Cakir, IMF resident representative for Georgia. As administration of Georgian government reported, the discussion focused on the situation in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic and the 10-year development plan of Georgia, as well as on successful completion of the IMF 4-year program (supported by the Extended Fund Facility).
NBG CONSIDERS ISSUING OF DIGITAL CURRENCY
National Bank of Georgia (NBG) announced in late April that it considers issuing of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). CBDC is a commitment of the Central Bank and has the status of a mean of payment.
FARMERS WILL BE ABLE TO BUYOUT LAND WITH 25% DISCOUNT
Georgian government decided to allow farmers, who have leased agricultural land from the state, to buyout their sites with discount of 25%. The decision was made on May 10.
ECONOMY MINISTER: MORE THAN 1,000 COMPANIES WITH GERMAN CAPITAL OPERATE IN GEORGIA
Natia Turnava, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, announced today that more than 1,000 companies, created with German capital, are operating in Georgia now. Regarding trade relations between the two countries, the Minister indicated that despite the pandemic, Georgian exports to Germany increased in January-March by 40% year-on-year.

NEW LICENSES ISSUED TO “GEORGIAN STATE ELECTROSYSTEM”, “ENERGOPRO GEORGIA” AND “TELASI”
Today, Georgian State Electrosystem and EnergoPro Georgia got new licenses, reported Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission. In particular, the Commission issued to Electrosystem a license for transmission of electricity, while to EnergoPro Georgia (serves Georgian regions) – a license for distribution of electricity.
AUCTION ON RIGHT OF OUTDOOR ADVERTISING IN TBILISI TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared that an auction will be announced in near future on obtaining a permit for placing outdoor advertising on municipal property. The auction will be held with the condition of prepayment of total fee sum to the municipality, he pointed.
