    THE GEORGIAN PRESIDENT HAS GONE TO THE US

    Eduard Shevardnadze declared on Monday, that his visit during which he will participate in the celebrations of NATO’s 50-years jubilee, will not be cancelled in connection to the operation held by the alliance in Yugoslavia. The President proposed 5 steps of regulating the crisis in Balkans: cease fire immediately, withdrawing all armed forces from Kosovo, placing there international peace keeping forces, unconditional returning the refugees and beginning negotiations on determining Kosovo’s status in Yugoslavia.

    THE SECRETARIAT OF THE ENERGETIC CHARTER SUPPORTS GEORGIA’S TRANSIT FUNCTION

    During today’s press conference this organization’s general secretary Peter Schutterle, who came to Georgia to the opening ceremony of the Supsa oil terminal, noted Georgia’s progress in the questions of energetic development. He emphasized, that Georgia is connected to the Energetic Charter, which includes 51 countries, with working partnership and the country was one of the firsts to ratify the agreement.


    SHARES OF POWER-DISTRIBUTING COMPANIES IN WESTERN AND EASTER GEORGIA ARE OFFERED TO THE INVESTORS

    About this was informed during today’s press conference at the State Property Management Ministry. The investors are offered the controlling interest (75% of the authorized capital).


    ACCORDING TO THE CONDITIONS OF MARCH 1, THE INDEBTEDNESS OF TAXPAYERS TO THE SOCIAL FUNDS IS 62.1M LARI

    According to the Tax Department, during the period since the beginning of the year the indebtedness increased by 7.6 million Lari (according to the conditions of January 1 were noted 54.5 million). From this amount, 48% belongs to large taxpayers.


    IN TBILISI IS HELD THE CAUCASUS TOURISM EXHIBITION-FAIR

    Such exhibition-fair, where are introduced 70 firms from 12 countries (Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Moldavia, Romania, Russia, UK), is held in Caucasus for the first time. Its goal is to support the formation and development of tourism market’s infrastructure.

    AES TELASI WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE PRIVATIZATION OF POWER-DISTRIBUTING COMPANIES

    As AES TELASI declared to Sarke, this is connected to spending significant amounts on the distribution network in Tbilisi.

    According to the company, total payment for the power by the population will be achieved only 2.5 years, when the process of taking the meters out of the apartments to the controlled places will be over.


    THE COMPETITION ON SELLING CONTROLLING INTEREST OF THE TOBACCO FACTORY KARTLI HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED AGAIN

    According to the State Property Management Ministry, in last February’s competition the winner became the US company Compass, which engaged to pay $615,000 (410,000 out of 811,637 shares were introduced on sale). The part of the amount (about 10%) was paid, however the investor could not cover the other part, because of which the Ministry cancelled the competition’s results.
