    ECONOMY MINISTRY: PROJECT OF HYDROELECTRIC STATION CONSTRUCTION IN PANKISI GORGE WAS POSITIVELY ESTIMATED BY ALL STATE DEPARTMENTS WITHIN THEIR COMPETENCE

    In 2017, Georgian government signed the memorandum with investor company LLC Alazani Energy (founded by Georgian LLC Peri) and issued permit for construction of small hydroelectric stations Khadori-3 and Samkuratskali-2 only after “all state departments, within the competence, positively evaluated the project”, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared.

    The Ministry pointed that management of Alazani Energy “from the very beginning, placed emphasis on dialogue with local population and held since 2017 multiple meetings in various formats in order to create among population a positive attitude to the project”.

    AS OF MARCH 31, DEBIT CARDS DECREASED IN NUMBER BY 14% Y-O-Y, CREDIT CARDS – BY 30%

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of March 31, there were 700,384 banking credit cards in circulation in the country. If compared with the same period of 2018, the number has decreased by 30%.


    AS OF MARCH 31, FOREIGN TURNOVER OF LOCAL ISSUERS’ CARDS INCREASED BY 28.3% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that total turnover of foreign transactions, conducted by resident issuers’ plastic cards in the 1st quarter, amounted to 476.22 million lari.

    If compared with the same period of 2018, the volume has increased by 28.3%.


    AS OF MARCH 31, DOMESTIC TURNOVER OF LOCAL ISSUERS’ CARDS INCREASED BY 16.8% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that total turnover of domestic transactions, conducted by resident issuers’ plastic cards in the 1st quarter, amounted to 5.57 billion lari.

    If compared with the same period of 2018, the volume has increased by 16.8%.


    GEORGIAN ECONOMY MINISTRY: KAZAKHSTAN CONSIDERS POSSIBILITY OF INCREASE OF OWN PRODUCTION’S TRANSIT THROUGH CORRIDOR, PASSING SOUTH CAUCASUS

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that Kazakhstan considers possibility of increase of own production’s transit through the corridor, passing South Caucasus.

    As the Ministry said, possibilities of transit increase were considered during visit to Kazakhstan of Natia Turnava, recently appointed as Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.


    BUSINESS OMBUDSMAN: TOGETHER WITH AUDITOR COMPANIES, WE WILL WORK ON PERFECTION OF TAX ADMINISTRATION

    Office of Georgian business ombudsman reported that business ombudsman Irakli Lekvinadze held a meeting today with representatives of law, auditor and consulting firms, operating in Georgia.

    According to Lekvinadze, “we identified a number of directions of tax administration, on which perfection we will continue work jointly”.


    FARMING MACHINERY AND PASTURES ARE GIVEN IN 25-YEAR LEASE TO 4 MORE MOUNTAIN AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that farming machinery and pastures were given within the state program to 4 agricultural cooperatives, existing in Dmanisi municipality (Kvemo Kartli region).

    The Ministry noted that currently, the mentioned state program involves currently 39 agricultural cooperatives countrywide.

    BONDS OF MICROFINANCIAL ORGANIZATION “CRYSTAL” ADMITTED IN LISTING OF GEORGIAN STOCK EXCHANGE

    Georgian Stock Exchange declared that bonds of local microfinancial organization Crystal are admitted in listing of category B since April 17.

    The matter concerns 2-year securities (nominal value – 100,000 lari) with total volume of emission of 15 million lari.

    EMC: IN CONNECTION WITH HYDROELECTRIC STATIONS’ PROJECTS IN PANKISI GORGE, 4 LAWSUITS ARE IN COURT, THOUGH, CONSIDERATION ON THE MERITS IS NOT STARTED YET

    Due to planned construction of hydroelectric stations in Pankisi Gorge (Akhmeta municipality of Kakheti region), 4 lawsuits are filed in court on behalf of local population, the Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) declared. At that, the organization noted that no consideration on the merits was held on any of these cases so far.


    NBG WARNS ON DANGER OF PHISHING

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) warned customers and urged them to pay special attention, when use financial and personal data in Internet space.

    As NBG said, identity theft by means of false web pages, so-called phishing, became frequent during the recent period.
