BAG INDEX: DESPITE THE WAR IN UKRAINE, GEORGIAN BUSINESS MAINTAINED POSITIVE MOOD IN Q2
Despite the military actions in Ukraine, the positive mood of Georgian business, fixed in the 1st quarter, was maintained in the 2nd quarter too, Business Association of Georgia (BAG) reported.
According to the BAG index, in the 2nd quarter, companies positively estimated both the current situation (quarter-on-quarter growth – 3.5 points) and expectations for the next 6 months (quarter-on-quarter growth – 4.2 points).
BAG INDEX: GEORGIAN BUSINESS STILL NAMES INSTABILITY OF LARI EXCHANGE RATE AS THE MAIN HINDERING FACTOR
Despite the fact that the dynamics of national currency strengthening has been observed in Georgia since May, business of the country in the 2nd quarter still names instability of lari exchange rate as the main obstacle, Business Association of Georgia (BAG) reported.
Though, compared to the 1st quarter, share of companies that expect the national currency to strengthen in the next 6 months has increased by 8 percentage points (pp), the Association pointed.
2-QUARTER PRIVATIZATION PLAN OF GEORGIAN STATE BUDGET IS EXCEEDED BY 8%
Within 6 months of this year, the state budget’s income from privatization made up 170.3 million lari, Georgian National State Property Agency reported. The privatization plan has been fulfilled by 108%, the Agency noted.
AJARA’S BUDGET ALLOCATIONS FOR 2022 INCREASED BY 6.2%
The Ajara government reported about decision of June 27, which increases the volume of allocations of the autonomy’s budget by 6.2%. The government specified that the new volume makes up 482.3 million lari.
GEORGIA PROHIBITED EXPORT OF WHEAT AND BARLEY UNTIL JULY 2023
By an order of the Georgian government, export of wheat and barley from Georgia is prohibited until July 1, 2023. The order, which has already entered in force, applies to relations starting from July 4.
IN 2021, 71.3% OF GEORGIA’S POPULATION WAS CONNECTED TO WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM, 51.5% – TO SEWERAGE SYSTEM
Sakstat reported that as of December 31, 2021, there were 2.63 million people, or 71.3% of Georgia’s population, connected to the water supply system. If compared with 2020, the share has increased by 2.4 percentage points (pp), Georgian statistics service reported.
IN 2021, PENETRATION ON GEORGIAN MARKET OF MOBILE SERVICES INCREASED BY 12 PP
Georgian National Communication Commission reported that in 2021, penetration (ratio of number of subscribers to size of population above 5 years) on Georgian market of mobile services made up 160% (i.e., 1 subscriber has more than 1 mobile number).
If compared with 2020, penetration has increased by 12 percentage points and reached its 5-year highest, the Commission noted.
IN 2021, SHARE OF INDIVIDUALS IN TOTAL INCOME OF GEORGIAN MARKET OF MOBILE SERVICES INCREASED, OF LEGAL ENTITIES – DECREASED
Georgian National Communication Commission reported that in 2021, individual subscribers generated 75% of total revenues from mobile services, or 416 million lari (year-on-year growth – 15.9%). In 2020, that share made up 73.4%.
