    A large group of British businessmen plans to visit Georgia in the second half of the year to learn about Georgia’s investment potential, reports the office of Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli.

    The parties agreed on the visit today at a meeting held in London between Nogaideli and Digby Jones, the Director General of the Confederation of British Industry.

  6. EBRD PLANS TO INCREASE INVESTMENT IN GEORGIA

    The EBRD management has showed willingness to increase investment to 150 million EUR a year at a meeting with Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli yesterday, reports the Prime Minister’s office.

    The Georgian governmental delegation is taking part in an annual May 21-22 meeting of the EBRD.

    The Financial and Budget Committee of Parliament has considered today the conclusion of the Chamber of Control on the budget performance, presented by the acting chairman of the chamber, Jasha Meskhia.

    According to the document to be presented to Parliament next week, there are some shortcomings, but overall the budget gives “reflects really” earnings and spending.

    The opposition parties blame the Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli in the corruptive transaction with the United Energy Distribution Company and suppose the National Movement to use the sum collected by increased tariff in the pre-election campaign.

    According to Zviad Dzidziguri, one of the leaders of the Conservative Party, increasing of tariff is within the interests of the company, which was founded by Zurab Nogaideli, the present Prime Minister, Gia Kavtaradze, the Present Justice Ministry, Kakha Damenia, the present Deputy Economic Development Minister, Levan Varshalomidze, the present head of Ajara autonomy.

    The non-governmental organization Republican Youth Institute blames the Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli in misappropriation of vast amount of money and advices the government to raise the issue of his responsibility.

    According to the NGO, the highest rates of t-bills’ annual yield – the average weighted of 93% and the maximal of 300% – were fixed during Nogaideli’s stay at the position of Finance Minister.

  17. INDEPENDENT MP FROM TSKALTUBO PROPOSES THAT CASINO LICENSE FEE IN CAPITAL DOUBLE

    Mamuka Saneblidze, an independent MP from the Tskaltubo district, proposed that a fee for opening a casino in the capital be increased to 10 million lari from current 5 million during the first hearing of the bill “On License and Permit Fees” in Parliament today.

    There is no license fee for opening a casino in Tskaltubo from 2006 but Saneblidze thinks this is not enough for the development of the resort and Tskaltubo will not be able to compete with Tbilisi.

  18. OIL AND GAS SECTOR LICENSING SYSTEM TO UNDERGO CHANGES

    Parliament has approved in the first reading today amendments to the law “On Oil and Gas”, under which the licensing system will undergo changes. The author of the bill is the Parliament’s Committee on Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy.

    President Mikheil Saakashvili has showed interest in developments regarding the Austrian firm, Schirhofer, which has faced problems with the import of products to Georgia, at a governmental meeting today. The President said business must not face such obstacles and the similar facts are “to be the subject to a special investigation”.

    President Mikheil Saakashvili has pointed to the need to step up efforts against the adulteration of wine at a governmental meeting today. He showed samples of adulterated products sold in Europe as Georgian wines to government officials.
