7. Netgazeti.Ge: “PROTEST TO “KHUDONHES” – THE ACTION IN KHAISHI DEMANDED TO SUSPEND FINALLY THE PROJECT”

   In Khaishi village of Mestia municipality (mountainous Svaneti region), protest action was held against construction of KhudonHES hydroelectric station, Netgazeti.Ge reports.

   Zurab Nizharadze, participant of the action, indicates that construction of the station is suspended, but local residents suspect that the project is planned to resume.

8. CHAIRMAN OF ROADS DEPARTMENT CHANGED

   Today, it became known that Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure will be headed by Irakli Karseladze, who will replace Giorgi Seturidze in the office.

   Until now, Karseladze headed Georgian Tourism Development Fund, founded by Georgian Co-Investment Fund (being established in its turn by billionaire ex-premier Bidzina Ivanishvili).

    Young Financiers and Businessmen Association considers that resignation of Zurab Alavidze from the office of Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure is a kind of reaction to those revealed possible violations and assumptions of corruption, with which society got acquainted recently.

    The Association specifies: “The matter concerns possible discrepancies, neglect of official duty, bargains with construction companies, extremely high risks of corruption possibility or poor quality of completed and ongoing projects, revealed in Roads Department during chairmanship of current head, Giorgi Seturidze”.

    However, the investor companies neither paid full privatization cost, nor finished their projects within agreed time frames, the organization declared, specifying: despite this, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Ajara does not impose sanction on violator companies.

    On March 4, representatives of all communities of Svaneti (the mountain region) gathered in the center of Mestia (center of the region) and decided to continue protest actions against construction of NenskraHES, the magazine reports.

    While commenting on Svaneti population’s protest against construction of the hydroelectric station, the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Zurab Alavidze declared: “There is private investment underway and I think that the private investor and the population will agree”.

    Zurab Abashidze, special representative of Georgian Prime Minister in relations with Russia, reminds that in December 2017, Georgian side has signed with Swiss company (SGS) the contract on monitoring of freight turnover on the Russian-Georgian border.
