    BAKHTADZE: I ACCOMPLISHED MY MISSION, NEW PRIME MINISTER WILL BE NOMINATED ON SEPTEMBER 3

    Mamuka Bakhtadze declared today about his step-down from the post of Georgia’s Prime Minister and noted that the new Premier will be nominated tomorrow morning, at the meeting in the office of ruling Georgian Dream.

    Regarding own resignation Bakhtadze said: “I made the decision to leave the post, as I consider that I accomplished my mission at this stage”.


    “TBC BANK” FOUNDERS: PROSECUTOR’S OFFICE INVITED DIPLOMATIC CORPS TO A CLOSED MEETING

    We knew that Prosecutor General’s Office invited representatives of diplomatic corps, operating in Georgia, to a meeting behind closed doors on September 6, founders of TBC Bank Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze declared.

    In the released statement, founders of the bank say that it is planned to hold at the meeting presentation of reasons or conclusion on the case of Khazaradze-Japaridze by two foreign experts, hired by the prosecutor’s office.

    ANNUAL GDP GROWTH IN JULY WAS 6.1%

    Sakstat released estimation, saying that Georgia’s real GDP growth in July, in comparison with the same period of previous year, made up 6.1%. For the first 7 months of this year, average real growth made up 5.1%.


    “FITCH” AFFIRMED GEORGIA’S SOVEREIGN RATING, BUT DECREASED FORECAST OF GDP GROWTH

    On August 16, Fitch Ratings affirmed Georgia’s long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating at the level of “BB” with a “stable” outlook.

    At the same time, Fitch decreased its forecast of Georgia’s economic growth for 2019 from 4.6% to 4.3%.


    HEAD OF ECONOMY MINISTRY: WE ARE INTERESTED IN BIGGER PRESENCE OF FRENCH BUSINESS IN GEORGIA

    “We are interested in more French investors to enter Georgia and more French businesses were presented in the country”, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Natia Turnava declared.

    The Minister declared this to journalists after the meeting with president of MEDEF International and French businessmen, held within the visit to France of Georgia’s president Salome Zurabishvili (August 27-28).


    IN Q2, LIVESTOCK POPULATION DECREASED, MEAT PRODUCTION GREW

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s meat production in the 2nd quarter amounted to 15,900 t, increasing year-on-year by 4.6%.

    At that, livestock population in the reporting period made up 965,300 heads, decreasing year-on-year by 1.4%.


    NATIONAL WINE AGENCY CHAIRMAN: NOT A SINGLE KILOGRAM OF GRAPES WILL REMAIN UNSOLD

    Georgian National Wine Agency expects that grapes harvest in Kakheti, the country’s main winegrowing region, will reach this year 200,000-250,000 t.

    The Agency’s chairman Levan Mekhuzla, who heads rtveli (vintage) coordination headquarters, declared that if there will be surplus of grapes on the market, risks and interests of winegrowers in this direction are protected and not a single kilogram of grapes will remain unsold.


    “GEORGIAN HOUSE” OPENED IN MINSK

    On August 24, Georgian Natural Products (the company founded by Georgian Partnership Fund) opened Georgian House in Belarus capital Minsk.

    As the Fund said, Georgian House combines wine museum, exhibition and conference room with shop of Georgian wine and other products, Georgian restaurant and wine cellar.

    ECONOMY MINISTRY DID NOT SATISFY CLAIM OF POTI PORT

    Administrative claim of JSC Poti Sea Port is not satisfied, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported recently. The company demanded declaration null and void of the order, issued by the Ministry’s Agency of Technical and Construction Supervision.


    IRISH “RYANAIR” TO START FLIGHTS TO GEORGIA IN NOVEMBER

    On August 21, agreement on launch of flights to Georgia was signed with the Irish low-coster Ryanair.

    Direct flights between Kutaisi airport and Marseille and Bologna will be made 2 times a week since November 6.


    “WIZZ AIR” TO MAKE FLIGHTS FROM KUTAISI TO BOLOGNA AND COLOGNE

    State-owned LLC Georgian Airports Association reported that Hungarian low-coster Wizz Air will start in November flights from Kutaisi airport to Bologna (2 times a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays). Besides, flights to Cologne will be launched on July 1, 2020.
