PARTNERSHIP FUND: SEARCH OF INVESTOR FOR STATE CLINICS STOPPED AFTER TIKARADZE’S APPOINTMENT AS THE HEALTHCARE MINISTER
Search of investor for Georgia’s state clinics has stopped after Ekaterina Tikaradze was appointed to the post of the Healthcare Minister (June 2019), Georgian Partnership Fund declared. “In our opinion, the main problem is that the Minister has essentially different vision in respect of further functioning of the state clinics”, the Fund said in the statement, released on February 3.

National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed in Georgian banks by private individuals (including sole proprietors) in national currency, totaled as of January 1 to 3.81 billion lari. The volume has increased by 7.2% quarter-on-quarter and by 22.7% year-on-year.
LAST YEAR, LARI EQUIVALENT OF DEPOSITS, PLACED BY PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS IN FOREIGN CURRENCY, INCREASED BY 19.8%
National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed in Georgian banks by private individuals (including sole proprietors) in foreign currency, totaled as of January 1 to equivalent of 11.23 billion lari. The volume has increased by 3.5% quarter-on-quarter and by 19.8% year-on-year.

National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed in Georgian banks by legal entities in national currency, totaled as of January 1 to 5.79 billion lari. The volume has decreased by 1.9% quarter-on-quarter, but increased by 4.5% year-on-year.

National Bank of Georgia reported that deposits, placed in Georgian banks by legal entities in foreign currency, totaled as of January 1 to equivalent of 6.41 billion lari. The volume has increased by 3% quarter-on-quarter and by 8.9% year-on-year.
IN 2019, GEORGIA’S HYDRO GENERATION DECREASED BY 10.1% BECAUSE OF ADVERSE HYDROLOGICAL CONDITIONS
In 2019, hydro generation in Georgia decreased by 10.1% “due to unfavorable hydrological conditions”, Galt&Taggart reported. As the company indicated, in the conditions of decreased hydro generation, local demand was satisfied by increased electricity import (year-on-year growth – 7.8%) and by generation of thermal power plants (year-on-year growth – 34.3%).

BONDS OF IFC ARE INCLUDED IN LISTING “A” OF GEORGIAN STOCK EXCHANGE
On January 24, bonds of International Finance Corporation (IFC) were included in listing of category “A”, Georgian Stock Exchange reported. The matter concerns emission of bonds with maturity of 5 years, totaling to 100 million lari.

JSC Georgian Railway declared that transit transportation of Russian coal via Georgia was started in 2018. At this stage, about 300,000 t of Russian coal are transported, the state-owned company reported.

EMC: IT IS UNCLEAR, WHAT CONCLUSIONS STATE DEPARTMENTS MADE FROM STUDY OF SITUATION IN MINDELI MINE BY “DMT”
It is unclear, what conclusions Georgian state departments have made from study of situation in Mindeli mine (located in Tkibuli of Imereti region), conducted by the German company DMT GmbH & Co. KG (DMT), declares the Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC). As this Georgian non-governmental organization notes, the German company finished its study and prepared respective conclusion already in January 2019, but it became publicly available only in December of that year, and “so far, did not become a subject of extensive discussion”.
