    GEORGIAN SIDE CONCEDED AT THE TALKS WITH THE ABKHAZ SEPARATISTS

    On December 2, the State Minister of Georgia Vazha Lortkipanidze held a meeting with the president of the self-proclaimed republic of Abkhazia Vladislav Ardzinba. The parties reached agreement as to consideration of the refugees’ return as well as economic issues.


    AN INVESTIGATION SCHEME FOR CASES OF CEASE-FIRE VIOLATION IN GALI REGION TO BE DEVELOPED BY THE UN MISSION WITHIN 2 WEEKS

    ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE REHABILITATION OF THE INVESTMENT CONDITIONS IN GEORGIA SCHEMED

    In his decree to this effect, the President points out that the law “About support and guarantees in investment activities”, passed in 1996, brought positive results. At present $139.8 million of direct investment is recorded in the state registration list of foreign investors, and on top of this $135 million of invested capital, which is not subject to registration, is involved with the energy sector.


    GOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION SET UP AT THE PRESIDENT’S DECREE TO EXECUTE ENTIRE INDUSTRIAL POLICY

    The commission is to be headed by the State Minister Vazha Lortkipanidze.     STARTING OCTOBER 1 THE COST OF 1 KWH TO BE RAISED TO 0.06 LARI

    Deputy Minister of Fuel and Energy, Mikhail Menteshashvili reported of the electricity price raise at today’s briefing at the Ministry. The population will be partly recompensed by means of 10% salary raise.

    According to the Department of Statistics, the prices went down by 0.38%. Prices for non-food goods went down by 0.97%, while food grew in prices by 0.45%.

    NATIONAL BANK TO STRENGHTEN CONTROL OVER COMMERCIAL BANKS

    As it had been reported, the joint stock commercial bank Armazi got its license withdrawn. The reason for such strict punitive measure was non-fulfillment of certain terms, i.e. gradual provision of the authorized capital and violation of other economic regulations.
