    “TI GEORGIA”: BILL ON PROPERTY SEIZURE FOR NECESSARY PUBLIC NEEDS DOES NOT SECURE BALANCE OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INTERESTS

    TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, “positively estimates initiative of the government to simplify procedures, related to rule of property seizure for necessary public needs”.

    “However, we consider that adoption of the bill [legislative initiative of the government was registered in the Parliament on April 5] with the existing rule will not secure balance between public and private interests”, the organization declares.


    PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN: THE MAIN THING IS THAT ALIENATION OF AGRICULTURAL LANDS TO FOREIGNERS TO BE BANNED

    Roman Kakulia, chairman of parliamentary committee on branch economy and economic policy, explains that main goal of majority MPs’ legislative initiative is “ban on alienation of agricultural lands to foreign citizens”.

    For legal entities, alienation should be allowed “in case, when citizens of Georgia are owners of share of over 50%”, Kakulia specifies.

    IN Q1, SHARE OF SME IN BUSINESS SECTOR’S TURNOVER AND OUTPUT INCREASED

    Sakstat declared that business sector’s turnover amounted in the 1st quarter to 15.2 billion lari, increasing in comparison with the same period of 2016 by 19%.

    In business sector’s total turnover, 47% was share of trade (including repair of cars, household goods and articles of personal use).


    NUMBER OF OCCUPIED IN Q1 INCREASED BY 4.7% Y-O-Y, BUT DECREASED BY 2.6% Q-O-Q

    Sakstat declared that in the 1st quarter, number of occupied totaled to 605,000, increasing by 4.7% year-on-year. However, the number has decreased by 2.6% in comparison with the 4th quarter of 2016 (i.e. quarter-on-quarter).


    ROADS DEPARTMENT: PROJECTING WORKS ON MODERNIZATION OF 200 KM OF ROADS IN KAKHETI REGION BEGIN

    Roads Department of Regional Development and Infrastructure Ministry declared about start of projecting of roads Tbilisi-Bakurtsikhe-Tsnori-Lagodekhi (120 km) and Tbilisi-Sagarejo-Bakurtsikhe (80 km). Modernization of these roads will be conducted within the 4th project on East-West highway (E60) improvement.


    AUDIT SERVICE: IN 2016, BUDGETARY FUNDS PAID IN BONUSES AND SUPPLEMENTS EXCEEDED SHOWING OF 2015 BY 6%

    State Audit Service declared that budgetary funds, paid in 2016 under combination of articles “bonuses” and “supplements”, totaled to 321.76 million lari, exceeding by 6% the showing of 2015. Same indicator of 2014 is exceeded by 11.2%.


    IN GEORGIAN-FINNISH BUSINESS FORUM, 15 FINNISH COMPANIES TOOK PART

    Today, Tbilisi hosted Georgian-Finnish business forum, in which representatives of 15 Finnish companies took part. The event was organized by the EU-Georgia Business Council.

    “L&R” COMPANY: WITHIN 3 YEARS, CZECH-SLOVAK INVESTMENTS OF 15M LARI WERE MADE IN SHEKVETILI

    L&R (the company, founded in 2014 by Slovak and Czech investors) said that within 3 years, Czech and Slovak investments in Shekvetili (Black Sea resort of Georgia) made up 15 million lari.

    The implemented project envisages construction of hotels and residential apartments of hotel type.
