    JAPANESE DELEGATION VISITING GEORGIA ON OCTOBER 9-10

    According to Foreign Ministry of Georgia, the representatives of the Parliament, the ruling Liberal-Democratic Party, Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Bank of international cooperation, oil companies and corporations Mitsubishi, Sumitomo will be the members of the Japanese delegation.

    The delegation will be headed by the former foreign minister of Japan Taro Nakayama.


    AGREEMENT ON THE MILITARY-TECHNICAL COOPERATION BETWEEN GEORGIA AND GREAT BRITAIN SIGNED

    The Defense Minister of Georgia David Tevzadze and Deputy Defense Minister of the Great Britain signed the deal on October 7. Tevzadze was on an official visit to the Great Britain.


    FOREIGN MINISTERS OF CIS MEMBER COUNTRIES CONSIDER PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS IN ABKHAZIA ILLEGAL

    The adequate announcement has been made at the session of the Council of the CIS member countries’ Foreign Ministers held in Yalta today. As it puts it, the Abkhaz authorities “ignore the will of the international community, namely the UN resolution which stresses that the presidential elections there, are unacceptable and unlawful”.


    VALERI CHKHEIDZE GAVE A NEGATIVE EVALUATION TO RUSSIA’S PROPOSAL ON BRINGING IN THE FRONTIER GARRISON

    The Chairman of the State Border Protection Department Valeri Chkheidze declared that, this kind of activities would rope Georgia in the armed conflict in the north Caucasus. Russia proposed to deploy its frontier troops in Shatili region, in Georgia, on the part of the border neighboring Chechnya.


    FOREIGN MINISTRY OF GEORGIA REFUTED INFORMATION ON ISSUING TRANSIT VISAS TO MUSLIM MERCENARIES

    The representative of the Foreign Ministry of Georgia declared at the briefing today, that the announcement of Russian mass media that the by means of transit visas, allegedly issued by the Consular department of Georgia in Turkey, 50 citizens of Muslim countries have entered the territory of Chechnya and some 100 more are intending to do the same thing. He said that from the beginning of September all the consulates of Georgia ceased issuing of transit visas.


    25 OUT OF 28 PRISONERS PARDONED BY PRESIDENT RELEASED IN AJARA

    As it has been already known, under the decree of the President of the country issued on October 1, 1,700 prisoners were pardoned. 28 out of them were serving the term in Ajara.

    GEORGIAN BANKS HOLD BACK FROM ISSUING HYPOTHECARY CREDITS

    As the three largest banks TBC-bank, Tbikombank and Sakartvelos Banki informed the Sarke correspondent, when crediting the agriculture, land is taken into pledge only as an additional security, but even this kind ofcases are very rear.     INVENTORY OF BEER AT RETAIL NETWORK OF ENTERPRISES

    Under the program on excise stamps’ introduction, the inventory is to be finished by October 10. As it has been informed, after this day, the production and import of beer as well as its realization from November 1 without excise stamps was banned under the decree of the Georgian President.

    DISTRICT COURT HAS SUSTAINED PETER SHAW’S APPEAL

    We’ll remind to you that the main bank expert of the TACIS project Peter Shaw has lodged an appeal on the decision of the court, not allowing his claim against the commercial bank Mercury on returning of credits to the Partner fund. On October 7 the case was sustained.


    REALIZATION OF THE HUMANITARIAN SOY OIL WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY MERCURY-92

    As the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Nugzar Duchidze declared, the JSC Mercuri-92 is the winner of the tender, organized by the Finance Ministry. 2,805-t soy oil will be given for consignation for 10-year term, under 8% annual, or 123,000 Lari.
