    PRIME MINISTER: WE NEED NEW ENERGY IN ECONOMY

    “We need new energy in economy, not only for creation of additional jobs, but also in order that the Georgian business was much stronger, than today”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia declared at the meeting with representatives of winemaking sector today.

    “The branch develops well”, though “this year, for example, the state had to interfere during rtveli [vintage] quite seriously, which should be corrected”, the Premier indicated.

    IN 9 MONTHS, NBG BOUGHT IN TOTAL $165M, WHILE SOLD $72.8M

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that in 9 months of this year, it bought in total $165 million, while sold $72.8 million.

    NBG purchased currency at auction, started from January 4 through June 7.


    IN Q3, DEMAND FOR DEPOSIT CERTIFICATES 2.98 TIMES EXCEEDED EMISSION

    National Bank of Georgia reported that demand for deposit certificates (discount security with 3-month maturity) in the 3rd quarter exceeded emission 2.98 times.

    In particular, total demand in the reporting period made up 178.8 million lari, while total emission (placed through 3 auctions) – 60 million lari.


    IN Q3, REFINANCING CREDITS INCREASED 2.4 TIMES Q-O-Q AND 1.6 TIMES Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that 13 refinancing credits (7-day) were issued in the 3rd quarter, totaling to 20.16 billion lari.

    If compared with the previous quarter (8.3 billion lari), the volume has increased 2.4 times.


    IN JANUARY-SEPTEMBER, PASSENGER TRAFFIC AT GEORGIA’S AIRPORTS INCREASED BY 5.4% Y-O-Y

    Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reported that 4.14 million passengers were transported (both by regular and by charter flights) through airports of the country in January-September, increasing in number by 5.4% year-on-year.

    The factual showing of the traffic lags by 9-10% behind of our forecast, the Agency indicated, explaining decline of the growth rate by Russian ban on air communication with Georgia, effective since July 8.


    MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND AGRICULTURE: SINCE 2020, ISOTOPE RESEARCH OF WINE AND ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES WILL BE CONDUCTED

    Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili declared that staring from 2020, isotope research of wine and alcoholic beverages will be conducted within state control. That aims prevention of falsification and improvement of quality, he pointed.


    TBILISI MAYOR: TAXI REFORM WILL NECESSARILY HAVE THE THIRD STAGE

    Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared that currently ongoing taxi reform “will necessarily have the third stage, which will be adjusted to better quality and stable, economic conditions on the taxi market”.

    “What requirements will be, we will surely inform the public”, in order the drivers “had time and opportunity for preparation for reform”, the Mayor promised.


    TBILISI CITY HALL TO REPAIR FOOTBALL SPORTS CENTER IN MUSHTAIDI PARK

    Tbilisi City Hall declared about start since November 15 of repair work in the football sports center Imedi, located in Mushtaidi Park. The works have to be completed at the end of February 2020.
