IDFI: GEORGIA DID NOT COMPLETELY FULFILLED 70% OF RECOMMENDATIONS ON CORRUPTION PREVENTION

From recommendations on corruption prevention, received by Georgia, 70% are not completely fulfilled, Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) reported, referring to Group of States against Corruption (GRECO, anti-corruption body of the Council of Europe).

On July 2, GRECO published Fourth Evaluation Round compliance report for Georgia, assessing situation with fulfillment of 16 recommendations, received by the country in 2016, which it undertook to implement within the next 2 years.




THE US ADMINISTRATION ALLOCATES GRANT OF $200,000 IN SUPPORT TO TRANSPARENCY OF WTO REQUIREMENTS ON SANITARY AND PHYTOSANITARY IN GEORGIA

In order Georgia to become more competitive on new export markets, the country needs successful adoption of the EU regulations, the US embassy in Georgia declared, pointing that the US Agriculture Department will render assistance of up to $200,000 for that end.

The matter concerns technical assistance, aiming facilitation to transparency of WTO requirements on sanitary and phytosanitary.

AS OF JUNE 30, GEORGIA’S STATE EXTERNAL DEBT INCREASED BY 4.9% Y-O-Y

Georgian Finance Ministry reported that state external debt of the country amounted as of June 30 to $5.44 billion. If compared with the same period of 2018, the volume has increased by 4.9%.




IN 6 MONTHS, GEORGIA’S FOREIGN TRADE TURNOVER DECREASED BY 0.6% Y-O-Y

Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s foreign commodity trade turnover (without unorganized trade) totaled in January-June to $5.97 billion. If compared with the same period of 2018, the volume has reduced by 0.6%.




PRIME MINISTER: CONSTRUCTION OF NEW EDUCATIONAL TOWN IN TBILISI WILL BE COMPLETED IN AUTUMN

“Construction of new educational town in Tbilisi will be completed in autumn”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze declared, while visiting construction site in the capital’s Didi Digomi area today.

As the government said, cost of the project makes up to 20 million lari.




IN 6 MONTHS, NUMBER OF VISITORS OF PROTECTED TERRITORIES INCREASED BY 10% Y-O-Y

In 6 months of this year, Georgia’s protected territories were visited by 411,905 visitors that by 10% exceeds the showing of the last year’s same period, Georgian Agency for Protected Territories reported. At that, number of foreign visitors in the reporting period has increased by 27% year-on-year, the Agency noted.




THE US GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES UP TO $2M FOR VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND ASSISTANCE TO BUSINESS WOMEN

Georgia was selected for the US government initiative W-GDP, which will allocate up to $2 million, the US Embassy in Georgia reported.

Through the mentioned financing, “Yes-Georgia” project will be implemented with participation of USAID and Georgian microfinancial organization Crystal, the embassy noted.

ADB ATTRACTED 60M LARI THROUGH EMISSION OF SECURITIES IN LARI

Asian Development Bank (ADB) declared about attracting of 60 million lari (about $21 million) through 2 new emissions of securities in Georgian national currency, lari.

As ADB noted, this is already the 3^rd such 2-tranche emission of securities on Georgian market after 2015.




“BUTA AIRWAYS” INCREASES FREQUENCY OF FLIGHTS TO BATUMI

Azerbaijani low-coster Buta Airways adds weekly flight in direction of Batumi, Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reported.

Respectively, from July 17 to September 18, regular flights between Baku and Batumi will be conducted 3 times a week by Embraer 190, Airbus 319 and Airbus 320.
