    THE GOVERNMENT DECIDED TO CLOSE THE SEASON IN WINTER RESORTS

    Georgian government’s interdepartmental coordination council decided today to close the season in ski resorts of the country as a measure against spread of coronavirus.

    At the news briefing in the government’s administration, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava declared that “assignment is already given and ropeways will stop operation, conservation and warehousing of the equipment will be carried out”.


    SINCE MARCH 18, GEORGIA FORBIDS FOR TWO WEEKS ENTRY FOR FOREIGNERS

    Georgian government declared that starting from March 18, entry in the country will be forbidden for two weeks for foreign citizens.

    The decision was made today by interdepartmental coordination council under chairmanship of Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, as a preventive measure against spread of coronavirus.


    GEORGIAN CITIZENS, RETURNING HOME FROM ABROAD, HAVE TO USE FLIGHTS OF “GEORGIAN AIRWAYS” AND “TURKISH AIRLINES”

    Irakli Chikovani, adviser to Georgian Prime Minister, declared that Georgian citizens, who return home from abroad, will be able to use flights of Georgian Airways and Turkish Airlines.

    “Entry to Georgia will be also allowed to those citizens, who are direct family members of our citizens”, Chikovani said.


    ECONOMY MINISTER: WE WILL MAXIMALLY ASSIST TO SEWING INDUSTRY IN LOCAL PRODUCTION OF MEDICAL MASKS

    “We will provide maximal assistance to the sewing industry in rapid turn to production of medical masks” in order “to decrease deficit on our market”, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava declared.

    As the Ministry reported, for that end the Minister and director of Produce in Georgia Agency Mikhail Khidureli held a meeting today with representatives of 20 sewing companies.


    THE GOVERNMENT ASSURES THAT THERE IS NO DANGER OF FOOD DEFICIT

    “Our main objective is that the citizen of this country did not feel deficiency of products of prime necessity”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia declared at the meeting with heads of grocery store chains, held on March 14. Currently, there are no bases for deficit-driven demand in the country, he noted.


    ECONOMY MINISTER: WE ARE SURE THAT OUR ECONOMY WILL OVERCOME THE ARISEN DIFFICULTIES VERY QUICKLY

    “We are sure that our economy will very quickly overcome the difficulties”, arisen because of coronavirus pandemic, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava assured.

    The Minister pointed that “This negative impact will be softened as far as possible, and we will return to usual pace and rhythm of development”.


    IN 2019, NUMBER OF VISITORS IN THE SEGMENT OF DOMESTIC TOURISM INCREASED BY 8.6%, EXPENSES – BY 6%

    Sakstat reported that in 2019, monthly average number of local visitors of age of 15 years and above in Georgia made up 992,900. This indicator by 8.6% exceeds showing of 2018, Georgian statistics service noted.


    REHABILITATION OF ROAD, LEADING TO SAMTREDIA-GRIGOLETI HIGHWAY, IS STARTED

    Georgian Roads Department reported about start of rehabilitation of 1-km road section, leading to new Samtredia-Grigoleti highway. The works have to be completed in this summer.
