    UKRAINE TAKING EFFORTS FOR ITS ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN THE ABKHAZ CONFLICT SETTLEMENT

    During his meeting with Eduard Shevardnadze, Leonid Kuchma said that Ukraine would take efforts in the framework of the Group of Friends of the UN Secretary General. The Presidents of Georgia and Ukraine discussed at this meeting in the framework of the CIS informal summit in Yalta, the question on the bilateral cooperation, regional and international relations, considered.


    SESSION OF THE WORKING GROUP ON THE SECURITY QUESTION AT THE COORDINATING COUNCIL HELD ON AUGUST 20

    The special representative of the UN Secretary General Dieter Boden and the Special Errands Minister of Georgia Malkhaz Kakabadze participated in this meeting, held in Sukhumi. However, after the Georgian side made amendment to documents, attaching political coloring to them, they became unacceptable for the Abkhaz side, said Jergenia.

    KAZAKHSTAN CONFIRMED ITS LIABILITY TO TRANSPORT AT LEAST 20M T OIL ON THE BAKU-SUPSA-CEYHAN ROUTE ANNUALLY

    As the President Eduard Shevardnadze declared in his radio-interview today, the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev told him this during the meeting held in Yalta in the framework of the CIS informal summit. Besides, Kazakhstan is ready to increase the oil volume, transported via Georgia on the railway up to 10 million t.


    STATE PROGRAM ON ASSISTING INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MARKET IS TO BE ELABORATED BY THE END OF 2001

    The President ordered the Informatization Department to elaborate this program, accorded with the Businessman Council, Information Society Laboratory, Information Technology Experts’ Club, Georgian Programmers Association and other NGOs. The creation and implantation of computer systems in Georgian language, including educational programs, are acknowledged to be priority.


    STATE HOSPITALS RESTRUCTURING FUND HAS BEEN CREATED

    The key task of the Fund, created under the decree of the President, is to improve the technical condition of the hospitals remaining in the state ownership. The assets for that purpose will be allocated from the state budget.

    MOTOR-CYCLE RACE GOING TO BE HELD ALONG THE PROSPECTIVE ROUTE OF THE BAKU-SUPSA-CEYHAN OIL PIPELINE

    The company-participants of the main export oil pipeline project are organizers of the race in which the racers from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Norway, Sweden, the USA, the UK and Venezuela will participate. As Sarke has been informed at the Georgian International Oil Corporation, which is the one of the organizers of the race, the participants will start from Baku on August 22 and leave for Turkey from Tbilisi on August 26.


    TBILISI SUBURB RESIDENTS AGAINST THE MAGTI GSM

    On August 20, around 200 residents of Tbilisi suburbs, Gldani and Mukhiani held a protest action against the construction of the repeater station of this mobile communications company. They think that its functioning is dangerous for their health.
