    THE PARLIAMENT APPROVED AMENDMENTS TO NEW EDITION OF THE CONSTITUTION

    At today’s plenary session, the Parliament approved (in third, final reading) with 115 votes pro amendments to new edition of the Constitution. The Parliament explained this by need of reflection in the new edition of recommendations of the Venice Commission.

    EXPORT OF GEORGIAN PRODUCTION TO BELARUS TO BE CONDUCTED WITH PARTICIPATION OF PARTNERSHIP FUND

    The project is under preparation, which provides delivery of Georgian wine, other alcoholic beverages and agricultural production to Belarus, Georgian Partnership Fund reported.

    As the Fund said, non-resident companies have no right of import in Belarus, so Belarusian side granted to the Fund the right of subsidiary establishment.


    NBG’S WARNING: ONLY LICENSED BROKER COMPANIES CAN ORGANIZE FOREX PLATFORMS

    From this year, only licensed broker companies are permitted to organize platform for trade with foreign currency (forex trade), National Bank of Georgia (NBG) pointed.

    Entities, which conduct their activity by means of platform for trade with foreign currency after respective law entered in force, are obliged to obtain the NBG license by April 11, NBG specified.

    OMANI LOW-COSTER TO START FLIGHTS TO GEORGIA

    Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reported that Omani low-coster SalamAir will launch regular flights to Georgia. The company got the corresponding permission on March 14.


    “QATAR AIRWAYS” TO MAKE THREE DAILY FLIGHTS TO TBILISI

    For the summer navigation season, Qatar Airways will increase frequency of flights to Georgia, Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reported.

    In particular, from June 1 and until end of the season (end of October) the airline will make 21 flights a week on the direction of Doha-Tbilisi-Doha (i.e. three times a day).


    IN MARCH, “WIZZAIR” TO MAKE FIRST FLIGHTS FROM RIGA AND WROCLAW TO KUTAISI

    Hungarian low-coster WizzAir will add in the current year 7 European directions to Kutaisi airport, Georgian Airports Association reported.

    In particular, the airline will make on March 25 the first flight from Riga.


    REGULATING COMMISSION TO SET STANDARD LOSSES FOR “ENERGOKAVSHIRI” AND “SG GAS COMPANY”

    National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission reported about launch of administrative proceeding for setting standard losses for gas-distribution licensees, JSC Energokavshiri and LLC SG Gas Company.

    Deadline for publication of act about amendment of respective resolution is May 17.

    COUNCIL OF EUROPE: GEORGIA HAS HIGHEST PRISONS POPULATION RATE, BUT POSITIVE DYNAMIC OBSERVED

    Georgia has the highest in Europe (the matter concerns 47 prison administrations out of 52 of member states of the Council of Europe, which had presented data) prison population rate, however positive dynamics is noticed, the Council of Europe declares.

    Namely, number of prisoners per 100,000 inhabitants of the country makes up 246.3 prisoners that almost twice exceeds European median of 117.1, indicates report, published on March 22, which covers period of 2015-2016.


    THE UN EXPERT: INCLUSIVENESS OF OLDER PERSONS IN GEORGIA MUST BE A PRIORITY

    Georgia is the most aged country in the South Caucasus region, representation of the UN Development Program (UNDP) stated, specifying that according to the last census, every fifth person is aged 60 and above. By 2050, share of people over 60 in Georgia will further rise to over 30%.


    “BUREAU VERITAS”: GUDAURI INCIDENT CAUSED BY OPERATOR’S MISTAKE

    Bureau Veritas has concluded that incident, which happened on the ropeway in Georgian alpine resort Gudauri on March 16 (during which several people were injured), was caused by mistake of operator.

    At the press conference today, the company declared that the case “is not related to systemic malfunction and mechanical defects, as the equipment was systemically operative”.
