    GEORGIA AND AZERBAIJAN EXPANDING AND DEEPENING COOPERATION

    The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Tofik Zulfugarov arrived in Georgia on a 2-day official visit today. He met the Foreign Minister of Georgia Irakli Menagarishvili.


    THE FINAL DECISION ON THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE RUSSIAN PEACEKEEPERS FROM THE ABKHAZIA HAVE NOT BEEN MADE YET

    This is the announcement made by the President of Georgia in his radio interview today, noting that the consultations on this issue with UN, the western countries and Russia are still under way(the mandate expires on September 1). As Shevardnadze underlined, it is necessary to take all the factors into account.


    THE GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS THE CONCEPTION OF THE PEACEFUL CAUCASUS

    This announcement was made by the President of Georgia in his radio interview today, commenting on the situation in Dagestan. As Shevardnadze declared, it is inadmissible to deal doubly in the policy of Caucasus because it has already brought devastating results.


    THE PRESIDENT OF GEORGIA READY TO CO-OPERATE WITH THE SHADOW PARLIAMENT IN THE FUTURE

    Eduard Shevardnadze, commenting on the forthcoming Parliamentary elections, declared that if the opposition wins, the compromise can be reached between the old President and the Parliament with a new composition. He noted that this already happened in France.

    ONLY 43 OUT OF 69 PARTIES REGISTERED IN GEORGIA PUT IN AN APPLICATION FOR PARTICIPATING IN THE ELECTIONS

    This is the information delivered by the Chairman of the central-electoral committee of Georgia Jumber Lominadze at the press-conference today, noting that the deadline for receiving the applications is September 6.

    As it has been informed, at present 85 single member constituencies have been already created.

    THE BRITISH COMPANY ITS STARTED ITS ACTIVITIES

    From this day on the British company ITS together with the Georgian customs service will carry out the pre-import control, under the terms of the agreement signed a month ago. The contract, which basically aims at suppressing the inflow of the smuggled goods to Georgia.

    THE CZECH COMPANY BECAME THE OWNER OF THE CONTROLLING BLOCK OF SHARES OF JSC CHIATURMARGANETS

    As it was informed at the Ministry of State Property Management, the Czech Saga Print won the competition on privatization 75% of the shares of Chiaturmarganets scoring an advantage over the Georgian Samko, who represented the JSC Zestaponi Ferro-Alloy Factory. The Czech investors offered $350,000 as a initial price for the controlling interest worth of $20,000, while the Georgian company only $20,001.
