    FOREIGN MINISTER OF RUSSIA SPEAKS ABOUT THE ROLE OF RF IN SETTLEMENT OF THE CONFLICT IN ABKHAZIA

    According to the information from the Georgian Embassy to Russia, Foreign Minister of Russia Eugenie Primakov held a press conference yesterday. Mr. Primakov commented the statements of a number of Georgian politicians about Russia’s role in settlement of the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict.


    THE EXERCISES OF AIR-DEFENSE TROOPS OF GEORGIA ARE POSTPONED

    The exercises of Air-Defense troops of Georgia, scheduled for today, were not held for the first time in the history of Georgia, in connection with the necessity of their additional preparation. Sarke correspondent has received this information at the press-center of Defense Ministry of Georgia.


    EDUARD SHEVARDNADZE MEETS WITH WILLIAM CORTNEY, ASSISTANT OF US PRESIDENT

    Yesterday President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze received William Courtney, the former US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia, and now the head director of US National Security Council. The meeting marked that the relations between the two countries have been significantly activated.


    THE DEPUTY PROCURATOR GENERAL RESIGNS HIS POST

    Koba Narchemashvili, who was appointed on the post of deputy procurator general of Georgia on December 18, has resigned his post. In his interview to Sarke he has announced, that he made it because of the unconformity to age qualification, defined for this post.

    At present a settlement of Larsi is a frontier zone between Georgia and Russia. Recently a conflict took place on this section, because the Russian frontier-guards transferred their checkpoint up the 2-kilometer neutral zone.

    THE STATE DELEGATION OF GEORGIA HEADED BY STATE MINISTER RETURNS FROM JAPAN

    Commenting the visit, member of the delegation, the head of Georgian International Oil Company Giorgi Tchanturia, said, that in Japan they met with the representatives of the legislative and executive authorities of the country, as well as withthe heads of the largest companies. A number of the important agreements were achieved, in particular, a treaty was signed with Itochu on its participation in building an oil-processing plant in Supsa.


    AN INTENSIVE WORK IS DONE WITH THE PURPOSE OF GEORGIA’S JOINING THE INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT CONVENTIONS

    According to the information of Transport Ministry, for the present Georgia joins 6 international conventions and its joining the other 11 will provide the establishment of its transit role. As the ministry considers, the main task at creation of a new transport system is preparation of the legal base.


    THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FOOD-STUFFS EVOLVES THE MEASURES ON ASSISTANCE TO REALIZATION OF IFAD PROJECT ON DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE OF GEORGIA

    According to the information from the today’s press-conference at the ministry, an order was issued on taking necessary measures with the purpose of rendering assistance to the Georgian farmers. As it is known, 49 credit unions were created in the country in the framework of IFAD project.


    EBRD IS REALIZING 8 PROJECTS TO THE TUNE OF 62M ECU IN GEORGIA

    $15 million are planned to be allocated for building a terminal in Poti port, $5 million – for rehabilitation of the Transcaucasian railway. $45-50 million is also supposed to be allocated on rehabilitation of EngurHES.


    GEORGIA IS PREPARING FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE HANOVER EXHIBITION EXPO-2000

    With this purpose the ministry of foreign economic relations and trade of the country is conducting the preparatory work. The German experts are rendering an active assistance in this direction.


    ACCORDING TO THE FORECASTS, MORE THAN 39,000 TONS OF MANDARIN SHOULD BE GATHERED THIS YEAR

    28,000 tons of mandarin are supposed to be gathered in Ajara, 9,500 – in Guria, 1,600 – in Samegrelo. More than 5,000 tons will be sold on the domestic market; 28,000 tons will be exported to Ukraine and Russia.

    A TENDER ON USING THE MONEY ALLOCATED FOR REHABILITATION OF TEA BRANCH WILL BE HELD ON JANUARY 9

    According to the information from the ministry of agriculture and foodstuffs, the backing conditions are specified. 3 million Lari are divided into 8 parts instead of formerly stipulated 4 parts: 840,000 Lari allocated for Guria will be distributed to two regions, and 1.36 million Lari allocated for Samegrelo – to 4 regions.


    THE REPEATED TENDER ON THE RIGHT TO REALIZATION OF MINERAL FERTILIZERS WILL BE HELD ON DECEMBER 31

    As marked at the today’s press-conference at the ministry of agriculture and food-stuffs, the Georgia firms have not showed specific interest in participation in the tender, which was fixed on December 19 and was not held because of unmet conditions. Only one private firm Gachiani has made a request.
