    THE PRESIDENT OF GEORGIA IS NOT GOING TO RUN FOR THE POST OF THE UN SECRETARY GENERAL

    Eduard Shevardnadze made this announcement at the briefing today. As the President noted, “those wishing him to leave Georgia” claim about his intention to run for this post.


    SHEVARDNADZE DOES NOT CONSIDER THE GEORGIA-RUSSIAN RELATIONS TO BE AGGRAVATED

    Besides, the President of Georgia declared at the briefing today that “some misunderstanding has arisen between the countries lately”. He expressed his hope that “Russia will be wise enough”, to overcome it.


    CHECHEN PARLIAMENTARIANS ASK FOR THE INFORMATIONAL SUPPORT

    The delegation of Chechen Parliament visited Tbilisi on September 25. During the negotiations held with the Georgia parliamentarians the guests declared that they do not have the access to the international information channels in Chechnya, while information delivered by the Russian mass media about the developments in the Republic does not conform to reality.


    GEORGIA HAS PEACEFUL WAYS OF DEALING WITH THE CONFLICT IN ABKHAZIA, SHEVARDNADZE CLAIMS

    This is the announcement made by the President at the briefing today, responding the question whether Georgia uses the Russian experience in Chechnya for the settlement of the Abkhaz conflict. We are not going to bomb the Abkhaz territory, we are not going to sweep off the population of Abkhazia, Shevardnadze stressed.


    GEORGIA NEEDS SUPPORT OF ALL THE INTERNATIONAL STRUCTURES FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF THE ABKHAZ CONFLICT

    This is the announcement made by the chairman of the parliamentary fraction Citizens’ Union Michael Saakashvili, while addressing the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. He noted that notwithstanding the numerous resolutions of the international, including the European Organizations, the peaceful process in Abkhazia could not come out of deadlock.

    The center of informational support on the political conflict in Abkhazia, supporting on the information provided by the Sukhumi TV, informed about Ardzinba’s pre election campaign in Gali region.     In his radio interview today the President of Georgia declared that, “its obvious that the budget has been robbed in one of the regions of the country”, because, “not a single Tetri has been transferred to Tbilisi” from there. “My patience can be limitless but everyone has to take into consideration the country’s needs especially the people claiming to be patriots”, declared the President of Georgia.


    TURKEY THANKS GEORGIA FOR THE LIQUIDATION OF THE EARTHQUAKE CONSEQUENCES

    As it is known, the employees of the Department on emergency situations of Georgia participated in the rescuing operations in Turkey. Today, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Turkey in Georgia thanked Georgia for the assistance.

    The ceremony of giving certificates was held in the village Maglaki (Imereti region). As it is known, thanks to the USAID’s assistance in the framework of the land market creation, the certificates are delivered to farmers for free.

    THE ORGANIZATION AGAINST HUNGER HAS BEEN CONTINUING THE PROGRAM ON SUPPORTING ABKHAZIA

    Mario Gordon, the head of the organization Against Hunger, delivered information about the works that has been done during the recent months by the organization, and spoke about further development of the program during his meeting with theForeign Minister of the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia. Namely, the organization intends to assist in the rehabilitation of the devastated economy by way of creation cooperatives for supporting the population in sales of products.
