    IN JUNE, GEORGIA’S REAL GDP GROWTH MADE UP 18.7%

    Sakstat reported that Georgia’s real GDP growth in June made up 18.7%, if compared with the same month of 2020. The average rate for 6 months of this year makes up 12.7%.


    NUMBER OF CONSTRUCTION PERMITS, ISSUED IN GEORGIA IN 6 MONTHS, INCREASED BY 5.5% Y-O-Y

    Referring to officially declared data, Sakstat reported that 4,400 permits were issued in Georgian construction sector for 6 months of this year, increasing thus in number by 5.5% in comparison with the same period of 2020. Total construction area, covered by issued permits, makes up 2.96 million square m (year-on-year growth – 14.7%).


    VOLUME OF CREDITS, ISSUED TO GEORGIAN HOUSEHOLDS AS OF JUNE 30, INCREASED BY 1.7% Q-O-Q AND BY 17.3% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that volume of credits (balance), issued to Georgian households as of June 30, totals to 19.6 billion lari. The volume has increased by 1.7% quarter-on-quarter and by 17.3% year-on-year.


    AS OF JUNE 30, 83.5% OF FOREIGN CURRENCY DEPOSITS IN GEORGIA ARE PLACED IN DOLLARS

    National Bank of Georgia reported that in total deposits, placed as of June 30 in Georgian banks in foreign currency (equivalent to 21.38 billion lari), 83.5% are denominated in the US dollars (equivalent of 17.9 billion lari). The volume has decreased by 10.3% quarter-on-quarter, but increased by 15.7% year-on-year.


    MINISTER OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE: IN 2030, BUDGET OF GENERAL EDUCATION WILL EXCEED 2.23B LARI, ONE OF HIGHER EDUCATION – 270M, OF SCIENCE – 243M

    Mikheil Chkhenkeli, Georgia’s Minister of Education and Science, declared that by 2026, all public schools in the country will have access to internet, while process of schools’ material and technical equipment will be accomplished countrywide. By 2030, budget of general education will exceed 2.23 billion lari, he pointed, while presenting a 10-year plan of the sphere’s development today.


    IDFI: ALLOCATIONS FOR EDUCATION MAKE UP 4.1% OF GEORGIA’S GDP, WHICH IS BELOW THE AVERAGE RATE OF EU AND OECD COUNTRIES

    Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) reported that resources, allocated by the government to education sector in 2020, made up 4.1% of Georgia’s GDP. This is below the average rates of EU and OECD countries, which made up 5% and 4.7%, respectively, IDFI said.


    IN 2020, MARKETS’ REVENUES DECREASED BY 23.2%

    Sakstat reported that revenues of Georgian markets and market-like enterprises totaled in 2020 to 127.9 million lari. If compared with 2019, the volume has decreased by 23.2%.

    SPECIAL MANAGER CHANGED IN “CAUCASUS ONLINE”

    Georgian National Communications Commission reported about appointment of Tamta Tepnadze as special manager in telecom operator Caucasus Online since July 29. She replaced Tamar Bokuchava, who requested the quit herself.
