   Disagreements between Georgia’s President and the Georgian Dream began after start of hostilities in Ukraine, when Salome Zurabishvili criticized the Georgian government due to excessively and, in her opinion, unjustifiably cautious position in respect to Russian invasion, the newspaper says.

   Speaking in Parliament on March 14, Zurabishvili said that the government had blocked her visits to the West, but she still managed to hold personal meetings with Western leaders.

2. GEORGIAN PRESIDENT: THERE IS A NEW, REAL AND ACTUAL CHANCE OF EU MEMBERSHIP

   There is a new, real and actual chance of EU membership, a real willingness on the part of our partners, declared Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili in her annual address to the Parliament on March 14.

   The President said that office of the State Minister for the EU Integration (cancelled some time ago) should be created urgently and suggested to appoint representative of opposition at the post.

3. HEALTHCARE MINISTER: FROM APRIL, PRESCRIPTION OF ONLY GENERICS WILL BE PERMITTED

   Zurab Azarashvili, Georgia’s Minister of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection, declared that starting from April, Georgian doctors will be permitted to prescribe only generics. Upon prescription, doctor will not be permitted to specify a specific brand, he noted.

4. HEALTHCARE MINISTER: SEVERAL DOZEN NAMES OF TURKISH MEDICINES HAVE ENTERED PHARMACIES AND PRICES ARE VERY LOW

   A month ago, the market was opened for Turkey and now, “several dozen names of Turkish medicines have entered Georgian pharmacies”, declared today Zurab Azarashvili, Georgia’s Minister of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection.

   “Prices are sharply low, in some cases by 80-90% lower than they were a week ago and a month ago”, the Minister pointed.

5. GEORGIA DECLARES SOLIDARITY TO UKRAINE

   In connection with Russia’s invasion in Ukraine, Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili said today that “as President of Georgia, President of the country, which suffered similar aggression, I would like to express our full solidarity with the President, the government and the people of Ukraine”.

   Georgian President indicated necessity “in any format, either at extraordinary session of the Parliament or expanded meeting of Security Council, to express all together that we, as the whole nation, stand for Ukraine, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for peace”.

6. Tabula: “AZARASHVILI: SOCIALLY UNPROTECTED CITIZENS WILL HAVE 3 ALTERNATIVES IN CONNECTION WITH EMPLOYMENT”

   On March 1, Georgia will launch the employment program for able-bodied socially unprotected persons, which will cover approximately over 200,000 citizens from 18 years to retirement age.

7. Tabula: “HEALTHCARE MINISTER: HOSPITALIZATION HAS DECREASED FROM 20% TO 4.5%”

9. DEPUTY DEFENSE MINISTER WAS APPOINTED AS MINISTER OF IDPS FROM OCCUPIED TERRITORIES, LABOR, HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL PROTECTION

   Zurab Azarashvili, who held the post of Georgia’s Deputy Defense Minister since this February, has been appointed the Minister of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection. The new Minister was introduced to the staff today, the Healthcare Ministry reported.

10. POLOLIKASHVILI REAPPOINTED AS UNWTO HEAD

    At the session of the Assembly of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Georgian representative Zurab Pololikashvili was appointed as the Secretary General of the organization for the 2^nd term, reported Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The Ministry noted that Pololikashvili was approved by 85 votes “pro” against of 26 votes “contra”.

11. “TI GEORGIA”: FROM JUNE 1, 2020 TO SEPTEMBER 15, 2021, THE STATE SIGNED SIMPLIFIED PUBLIC PROCUREMENT CONTRACTS OF 125M LARI

    In the period from June 1, 2020 to September 15, 2021, there were 4,500 simplified contracts for public procurement of construction services were signed, having total cost of 125 million lari, reported TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International.

    TI Georgia indicated that out of all simplified public procurement, contracts of 33.8 million lari (27% of the total volume) were signed with companies, having ties with individuals who donated funds to the ruling Georgian Dream or President Salome Zurabishvili.

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili is putting forward an initiative to raise taxes for online casino owners, tighten players’ age limit and prohibit advertising. Then, at the second stage, online casinos should be prohibited at all, the newspaper reports, noting that the government is going to work actively on this issue with Parliament.

    By results of local elections, held on October 2, votes among candidates for the post of Tbilisi Mayor were distributed as follows: Kakha Kaladze (ruling Georgian Dream) – 44.96%, Nika Melia – National Movement) – 33.9%, Giorgi Gakharia (For Georgia) – 9.33%, Anna Dolidze (For People) – 4.64%, Anna Bibilashvili (Lelo) – 2.53%.

    Because of these results, there will be the 2^nd round of elections in Tbilisi, where Kaladze and Melia will compete for the post of Mayor.

    Waste Detector, media project of the non-governmental organization Governance Monitoring Center (GMC), reported that in 2020, the state program “Produce in Georgia” has financed 5 sponsor companies of the ruling Georgian Dream with 775,000 lari in total. Among these companies are Gza (Road), Construction Service, Chateau Kvirike and others.

    Georgia’s President Salome Zurabishvili declared that Georgian government’s refusal to receive the EU loan of 75 million EUR is “a rather odd step for majority of the population and for me personally”.

17. NEW LIVESTOCK FARM HAS BEEN OPENED IN DEDOPLISTSKARO

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that a new livestock farm has been opened in Dedoplistskaro municipality (Kakheti region).

    As the Ministry said, young farmer Zurab Masurashvili invested 2.5 million lari in the facility, which employs 10 local residents.
