    At the extraordinary session of Parliament MPs unanimously adopted a resolution concerning Russian’s failure to meet agreements of the OSCE summit, held in Istanbul, in 1999. The Foreign Ministry of Georgia has been charged to apply to the OSCE and other international organizations to support Georgia.

  3. FINANCE MINISTRY HAS DECIDED TO OPEN TREASURY FILIAL IN AJARA

    As Zurab Nogaideli, Finance Minister told Sarke, correspondent alterations have already entered in the provision on the State Treasury and only technical issues to be regulated. Minister has refrained from both specifying the precise date of the opening of the Treasury filial in Batumi and naming the candidates on the post of its head.

  4. FINANCE MINISTER FLATLY AGAINST BAN ON SCRAP METAL EXPORTS

    Zurab Nogaideli, the Finance Minister, told Sarke that it was impossible to ban scrap metal exports and thus change the existing liberal regime. The ban will not yield results and will become a new source for the corruption, he said.

    Georgia's debts to Turkmenistan and Russia, largest creditors of Georgia, come to $336 million and $160 million consequently.

    Zurab Nogaideli, the Finance Minister, seems pessimistic about restructuring Turkmenistan’s debt and has no reliance on ending negotiations by September 1 either (as it was scheduled).

Zurab Nogaideli, the Finance Minister, however, asked to shift the date to September 15.

  7. MINIMUM WAGE RISE RATE HAS YET TO BE SOLVED

    The Ministry of Health, Social Security and Labor offers two versions of a minimum wage raise – either up to 35 Lari or 60 Lari. In the first case, additional 4 million Lari a month is to be envisaged in the budget, in the second – up to 7 million.

    The consultation held by speaker of Parliament Zurab Zhvania with representatives of the Opposition has yielded no results. At a press briefing, following the consultation, Zhvania said the situation was complicated, noting certain groups in the Opposition aimed to disrupt a normal election process.

    The Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli pledged today that arrears on refugees’ benefits would be completely covered in July-August. He said, the Ministry would issue 3 months’ benefits totaling 11 million Lari.

  20. GOVERNMENT APPROVED TAX AMENDMENTS

    The Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli introduced a tax assessment change scheme at the government session today. For small and medium business, it envisages 5% tax on the turnover (100,000 Lari) and reduction in number of excise goods from seven to four (tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, oil products and cars).
