KOREAN COMPANY INTERESTED IN CONSTRUCTION OF HOUSING ESTATE IN TBILISI

South Korean company CI Construction has expressed willingness to invest $50 million in the construction of a housing estate in Tbilisi, Han Sik Yung, a representative of the company, declared at a meeting with city Mayor Zurab Chiaberashvili today. Korean businessman said the company has a three-year project, under which a housing estate will be built in the Isani-Samgori district of the capital on 170,000 square meters, where a military base was deployed earlier.

Amid the launch of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline (May 25) and Georgia’s Independence Day (May 26) celebrations the Georgian press has actively discussed a pull out of Russian military bases from Georgia’s territory. During the ceremony marking the end to the construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, held in Azerbaijan, the Presidents of the three countries (Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey) stressed the strategic importance of the project as well as the US role in its successful completion.

Roman Gotsiridze, the National Bank (NB) President, has sent a letter to the Central Bank of Russia, in which he expresses concern over the operation of Russian commercial banks in Abkhazia and strengthening their ties with Abkhaz banks. The letter also shows indignation over illegal activities from the side of Russian banks, in particular, their inclusion of Abkhaz banks in the system of electronic settlements.

Shugrefimpexbank has acquired three floors of a building at 150 Agmashenebeli Ave., Tbilisi, for $305,000 at an auction hosted by the Economic Development Ministry today. Among other bidders for the building, estimated at $300, were a Georgian insurance company, Europace and pharmaceutical companies Aversi and PSP.
REGULATION AGENCY URGES SMALL OIL REFINERIES TO MEET REQUIREMENTS

Andro Kotetishvili, head of the Oil and Gas Regulation Agency, has announced today that 8 small oil refineries, which have not operated since November 2004, have been given 30 days to meet requirements imposed by the license. He claims the agency sent adequate notices to the companies on April 15.

The signing of a contract with Marine Capital and its subsidiary Georgian Tanker (with a share of American EastWind) today has officially ended the privatization of LLC Ocean Shipping Company. The former paid $93 million for the shipping company, which currently numbers 15 vessels.
