Eight entities have been sold for 720,000 lari of seven put up for sale at an auction held at the Economic Development Ministry today. Deputy Minister Natia Turnava was satisfied with the auction results, noting initially only 500,000 lari had been expected.

Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim has said a working group is being set up to launch a Kars (Turkey) – Akhalkalaki (Georgia, the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, south part of the country) railway construction project. Representatives of Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan, which is also interested in launching the railway, will enter the group.

GEORGIA TO HOST DUTCH GROUP FOR THE FIRST TIME NEXT YEAR

According to the press service of the Finance Ministry, on June 11-12, 2005 Georgia will host annual meetings of Finance Ministers and Presidents of National Banks from state-members of the so-called Dutch Group, founded at the IMF and the World Bank. National Bank President Irakli Managadze and Roman Gotsiridze, head of the Financial and Budgetary Committee of Parliament, clashed over the NB’s money-and-credit policy while Parliament considered its main directions today. Managadze said Gotsiridze’s claims against the NB were ungrounded and just a manipulation with facts.

President Mikheil Saakashvili and Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania have backed the plan to sell Georgian Ocean Shipping Company to Greenoak for $107 million amid opposition’s claims the government’s decision is illegal and partial.
Zhvania said the authorities had been hard at work to sell the company profitably and they would not “give up”.
