    ABOUT 60 REPRESENTATIVES OF BUSINESS SECTOR TOOK PART IN CONSIDERATION OF THE OPEN PARLIAMENT’S ACTION PLAN FOR 2018-2019

    Today, up to 60 representatives of Georgian business sector met MPs for presenting to them recommendations for the Open Parliament’s action plan for 2018-2019, reported representation of the UN Development Program (UNDP).

    The meeting was organized by the Permanent Parliamentary Council on Open and Transparent Governance with the support from the EU and UNDP, in cooperation with the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI).


    CHAIRMAN OF ROADS DEPARTMENT CHANGED

    Today, it became known that Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure will be headed by Irakli Karseladze, who will replace Giorgi Seturidze in the office.

    Until now, Karseladze headed Georgian Tourism Development Fund, founded by Georgian Co-Investment Fund (being established in its turn by billionaire ex-premier Bidzina Ivanishvili).

    COMMITTEE ON EUROPEAN INTEGRATION CONSIDERS EXPEDIENT TO EXTEND VAT EXEMPTION NOT ONLY ON AIR, BUT ON MARINE TRANSPORT TOO

    One of the topics, being considered at today’s meeting of the Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, was VAT-related amendment to Tax Code.

    The draft amendment envisages exemption from VAT of aviation maintenance, air transportation and aviation works, being provided within Georgian borders.


    REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT MINISTRY: VILLAGES NEARBY TO OCCUPATIONAL LINE IN GORI, KASPI AND KARELI MUNICIPALITIES WILL HAVE NO MORE PROBLEMS WITH WATER SUPPLY

    Villages, located nearby to occupational line in Gori, Kaspi and Kareli municipalities (Shida Kartli region), will have no problem with water supply any more, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure declared.

    The project worth over 5.5 million lari envisages arrangement of wells, tanks and chlorinator.


    TBILISI HOSTS 55.7% OF ALL PAWNSHOPS

    Sakstat reported that by end of 2017, there were 875 organizations in Georgia, being engaged in pawnshop activity. Out of total, 55.7% are located in Tbilisi, 12.1% – in Imereti, 9.9% – in Samegrelo – Zemo Svaneti, 9.7% – in Ajara.

    PROPERTY INSURANCE PREMIUM IN 2017 INCREASED BY 10.3% Y-O-Y

    State Service for Insurance Supervision reported that premium, attracted as of December 31, 2017, in sphere of property insurance, totaled to 71.12 million lari, increasing year-on-year by 10.3%. This kind of insurance accounted for 16.3% of total premium, attracted for the period.


    CARGO INSURANCE PREMIUM IN 2017 INCREASED BY 23.8% Y-O-Y

    State Service for Insurance Supervision reported that premium, attracted as of December 31, 2017, in sphere of cargo insurance, totaled to 6.19 million lari, increasing year-on-year by 23.8%. This kind of insurance accounted for 1.4% of total premium, attracted for the period.


    MINISTER OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND AGRICULTURE EXAMINED ACTIVITY, CONDUCTED IN KAZRETI BY SUBSIDIARIES OF “RMG”

    Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili visited Kazreti (Kvemo Kartli region), where he examined on the spot activity of RMG Copper and RMG Gold, the Ministry reported.

    In 2015-2016, “as a result of our check, violations were revealed in several directions”, the Minister pointed and added: “Correction of these violations is important and we have discussed exactly these activities”.


    ENERGY EFFICIENCY FUND OPPOSES CONSTRUCTION OF “MESTIACHALAHES”

    Referring to reports from Svaneti, Energy Efficiency Fund declared that equipment for MestiachalaHES was transported on March 31 to Mestia, being guarded by special task unit.

    The Fund, noting that construction of this hydroelectric station is opposed by local population, pointed that the station “was washed away by water” some time ago.


    “IPM”: AMONG BREWERIES, “NATAKHTARI” WAS MOST ACTIVE IN MEDIA IN 2017

    Institute for Polling and Marketing (IPM) named Natakhtari a most media-active company among breweries in 2017. This company accounted for 42% of total exposures.
