ANNUAL INFLATION IN AUGUST MADE UP 12.8%
Sakstat reported that in August, annual inflation in Georgia made up 12.8%. Monthly inflation (i.e. compared with the previous month, July) made up 0.7%.
IN Q2, BUSINESS SECTOR’S TURNOVER INCREASED BY 56.7% Y-O-Y, OUTPUT – BY 43.4%
Sakstat reported that turnover of Georgian business sector for the 2nd quarter totaled to 34.96 billion lari. If compared with the same period of 2020, the volume has increased by 56.7%.
IN Q2, TRADE ACCOUNTED FOR 36.8% OF BUSINESS SECTOR’S TURNOVER AND FOR 19.2% OF OUTPUT
Sakstat reported that in total turnover of Georgian business sector for the 2nd quarter (34.96 billion lari), trade, including repair of cars and motorcycles, had the largest share – 36.8%, or 12.85 billion lari. If compared with the same period of 2020, turnover of this sector has increased by 57%.
IN 2020, SHARE OF FOREIGNERS AMONG GEORGIAN HOTELS’ GUESTS DROPPED 2.3 TIMES
Sakstat reported that in 2020, Georgia’s hotels and hotel-type facilities served 1.34 million guests, which number has decreased year-on-year by 66.5%. Georgian statistics service specified that in total number of guests, foreign citizens accounted for 30.6% (compared to 71.5% in 2019).
IN 2020, NUMBER OF ENTITIES ENGAGED IN HOTEL SERVICES DECREASED BY 37.3%
Sakstat reported that in 2020, there were 1,010 entities in Georgia, being engaged in hotel services, which run 1,054 hotels and hotel-type institutions. As Georgian statistics service noted, number of these entities has decreased by 37.3% in comparison with 2019.
GOVERNMENT TO SUBSIDIZE SUB-STANDARD APPLES WITH 0.1 LARI PER 1 KG
Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that subsidy for sub-standard apples will amount to 0.1 lari per 1 kg.
With this subsidy, farmers will be able to sell their sub-standard apples to fruit-processing enterprises, participating in the state program, at a price of at least 0.22 lari per 1 kg, the Ministry pointed.
CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ROPEWAYS IN CHIATURA COST OVER 55M LARI
Georgian government reported that total cost of construction of new ropeways in Chiatura (Imereti region) exceeded 55 million lari. Works were carried out through financing of the governments of Georgia and France.
ECONOMY MINISTER: AVERAGE SALARY OF “SAKNAKHSHIRI” MINERS INCREASED BY 50% AND MORE
Natia Turnava, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, declared that “For the past year and a half, after entry of new management in Saknakhshiri [Georgian Coal, located in Tkibuli of Imereti region], working conditions have improved with our assistance”.
“Risk of accidents has been diminished, miners’ average salary has increased by 50% and more”, the Minister pointed.
