VICE SPEAKER: JAPAN PLANS IMPLEMENTATION OF IMPORTANT PROJECTS IN GEORGIA
First deputy chairman of Georgian Parliament Tamar Chugoshvili declared that Japan plans implementation of important projects in Georgia.
Chugoshvili reminded that “Just recently, Japan made the decision to finance very large infrastructure project in Georgia” and said that “They plan to implement educational programs and to launch other infrastructure projects, especially in environmental sphere”.
GEORGIA EXPRESSES INTEREST IN LAUNCH OF NEGOTIATIONS ON FREE TRADE WITH JAPAN
At the meeting in Tbilisi with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono, Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze put forward an initiative of launch of negotiations on free trade agreement between the two countries.
As press service of the Premier reported, the parties paid also attention to process of negotiations on bilateral investment agreement between Japan and Georgia, which are at the final stage.
IN Q2, BUSINESS SECTOR’S TURNOVER INCREASED BY 19.7% Y-O-Y, OUTPUT – BY 12.7%
Sakstat reported that business sector’s turnover amounted in the 2nd quarter to 19.9 billion lari, increasing by 19.7% year-on-year.
Trade (including repair of cars, household appliances and items of personal use) accounted for 44.6% of total volume (against of 46.3% in the 1st quarter).
IN Q2, NUMBER OF OCCUPIED IN BUSINESS SECTOR INCREASED BY 4% Y-O-Y
Sakstat reported that number of occupied in business sector totaled in the 2nd quarter to 656,500. If compared with the same period of 2017, the number has increased by 4%.
IN Q2, UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DECREASED BY 1.9 PERCENTAGE POINTS Q-O-Q
Sakstat reported that unemployment rate in the 2nd quarter made up 12.1%. If compared with the 1st quarter (14%), the rate has decreased by 1.9 percentage points.
IN 2017, NUMBER OF HOTELS’ VISITORS INCREASED BY 33.1%
Sakstat reported that 3.38 million people visited during 2017 hotels and hotel-type institutions of Georgia. If compared with 2016, the number has increased by 33.1%.
DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER: FINANCIAL AID OF THE EU WILL BE USED FOR SUPPORT OF REFORMS, PLANNED BY THE GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT
Georgia’s Deputy Finance Minister Nikoloz Gagua declared that financial aid of the EU will be used for support of the reforms, planned by the government of Georgia.
Gagua noted that results, achieved by Georgia within the ongoing IMF program, provided one more ground for allocation of financing by the EU.
EU4YOUTH: THE EU LAUNCHES NEW PROJECT ON SUPPORT OF YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
The EU representation in Georgia declared that today, implementation of 3 new projects on assistance to youth employment was started in Georgia within the EU initiative EU4Youth. The EU financing of these projects (cover Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine and Belarus) totals to 4.2 million EUR.
JICA TO ALLOCATE $343M TO GEORGIA
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) allocates a soft loan of about $343 million to Georgia, which is intended for the project of improvement of high-speed East-West Highway (E60), in particular for construction of Shorapani-Argveta section.
Respective agreement was signed in Tbilisi today, within the visit to Georgia of Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono.
