GIORGI ARSENISHVILI NOMINATED AS THE CANDIDATE FOR THE STATE MINISTER
The President said during his meeting with the representatives in the regions, held at the State Office, he was going to present Giorgi Arsenishvili’s candidature to the Parliament. Giorgi Arsenishvili has been President’s representative in since 1995.
AMBASSADOR OF CZECH REPUBLIC ARRIVED IN TBILISI TODAY
Irzhi Nekvasil, the former head of the General Staff of the Czech army, will hand the letters of credentials to the President of Georgia in the near future. The embassy, which will represent the Czech Republic’ interests in the South Caucasian countries, is planned to be opened till the end of May.

PARLIAMENT UNANIMOUSLY ACKNOWLEDGED NB WORK AS SATISFACTORY
At the Parliament’s plenary session today, the NB President Irakli Managadze made a report on the work of the bank. He noted that despite the 1998 financial crises, the NB managed to maintain low inflation rate in 1999, which exceeded planned figure by 0.3% only and made up 10.9%.
WB CREDIT FOR THE REFORM OF THE EDUCATION SYSTEM WILL BE ISSUED IN JULY

RELIABILITY RESOURCES OF THE COUNTRY’S POWER SYSTEM HAS BEEN EXHAUSTED, THE MINISTER OF FUEL AND ENERGY THINKS
The Minister of Fuel and Energy David Mirtskhulava declared at the press conference today that the power system which worked “without sufficient investments”, has run out of the resources to maintain its operative condition. According to him, some $100 million has been invested for 10 years, when this sum is needed annually.
EXTRAORDINARY SESSION OF THE BREAD AND GRAIN PRODUCERS HELD IN TBILISI TODAY
It was noted at the session that it was necessary to ensure the operation of the factories, receiving revenues by the budget and the right accounting of the bread consumption for the development of the sphere. The participants of the session noted the necessity of the VAT liberalization and stressed the negative influence of smuggling on the local production.

PARLIAMENT POSTPONED THE DISCUSSION OF THE CANDIDATURE FOR OMBUDSMAN
The Parliament has not considered the candidature of the ombudsman at the plenary session today, as planned, as the session of the human rights committee, which was to consider the 2 candidatures nominated on this post, failed to poll because of the absence of quorum. Vakhtang Dzabiradze, nominated by the fraction Industrialists, presenting his program at the session of the committee, said that in case of his election he intended to closely cooperate both with the mass media and the NGOs.
