THE WORKSHOP ON THE PENITENTIARY LEGISLATION OPENED

The workshop held at the Ministry of Justice, under the aegis of Council of Europe started on September 7. It will last 10 days.




THE POPE WILL VISIT GEORGIA ON NOVEMBER 8-9

During his official visit Pope John Paul II will meet the President Eduard Shevardnadze and the Catholicos-Patriarch of Georgia Ilia II. He will visit a number of Catholic churches in some regions of Georgia as well.




GENERAL KOROBKO PROTESTED AGAINST MILITARY TRAINING IN KULEVI

As the commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Abkhazia Sergei Korobko declared on September 7, the large-scale training, where almost all combat arms of the Georgian Army are participating, are being held in a prohibited zone. The Kulevi shooting-range is located on the seashore, about 16 km from Abkhazia administrative border.




THE FALL SESSION OF THE PARLIAMENT WILL LAST ONE WEEK

As it is known, this is the last session of the current Parliament, elected in 1995. The session opened on September 7 and is to finish on September 10, with the summarizing report of the speaker Zurab Zhvania.

THE WORKS ON THE PREPARATION OF THE FORUM ON THE CAUCASIAN REGION’S ECONOMIC COOPERATION CONTINUING

William Taylor, the coordinator of the USA’s State Department on Assisting New Independent States, is on a 2-day (7-8 September) working visit in Tbilisi. The aim of his visit – discussion of the issues on the organization of the forum on economic cooperation in the Caucasian region.




THE IMF MISSION WILL ANALYZE THE ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE OF GEORGIA

The IMF mission headed by the head of the Southern division of the 2^nd European Department Emmanuel van der Mensbruk is arriving in Tbilisi today late at night. The mission is going to meet with the President of Georgia, the Chairman of the Parliament, the State Minister, the leaders of various Ministries, the representatives of the banks and business circles of the country.




THE STATE MINISTER PROPOSED TO CO-ORDINATE THE AMERICAN AND GERMAN PROJECTS ON THE LAND REGISTER

This is the information delivered by the State Minister Vazha Lortkipanidze during his meeting with the head of the Middle and Eastern Europe Department in Ministry of Economic Co-Operation and Development of Germany and the acting ambassador of Germany in Georgia. The German guests introduced the State Minister with the land register program, calculated for 5 years.

According to the information delivered at the State Property Management Ministry, the initial cost of the 75% of the stocks is equivalent to $8 million in Lari. The tender will last till November 22.

According to the information of the State Property Management Ministry, the initial cost is equivalent of $20 million (or 30 million Euro). The equity capital makes up $7,818,726.




JOINT VENTURE, FOUNDED IN BATUMI, WILL TRANSPORT THE LIQUID GAS

The joint venture has been founded by the American company Conoco, Turkish – Enaki and Georgian – Ajargaz. On the first stage, the gas will be transported from Russia and Kazakhstan via Baku, and further – to Turkey and European countries.

GERMAN ARCHAEOLOGISTS ROBBED IN KAKHETI

The German archeologists, carrying out excavations on Shiraki valley have been assaulted this morning. Before starting of the plenary session, the Chairman of the Parliament expressed his strong indignation on this case and appealed to the Interior Ministry to take all the possible measures to detain criminals in a short time.
