    MINISTER OF CULTURE AND MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE APPOINTED DEPUTY PRIME MINISTERS

    Georgia’s Prime Minister has appointed two new Deputy Prime Ministers today, reported administration of Georgian government.

    In particular, these posts will be occupied by Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth Thea Tsulukiani (Justice Minister in 2012-2020 and Vice Premier in 2019-2020) and Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili.

    AS OF JUNE 30, NBG'S NET FOREIGN ASSETS DECREASED BY 15.2% Q-O-Q, BUT INCREASED BY 5.4% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that its net foreign assets (balance account) amounted as of June 30 to 10.2 billion lari. The volume has decreased by 15.2% quarter-on-quarter, but increased by 5.4% year-on-year.


    IN 2020, GEORGIA’S AGRICULTURAL IMPORT FROM THE EU DECREASED BY 10%

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that Georgia’s agricultural import from the EU countries (plus the UK) amounted in 2020 to $263 million. If compared with 2019, the volume has decreased by 10%, the Ministry said.


    IN 2020, GEORGIA’S AGRICULTURAL EXPORT TO THE EU INCREASED BY 26%

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that Georgia’s agricultural export to the EU countries (plus the UK) amounted in 2020 to $163 million. If compared with 2019, the volume has increased by 26%, the Ministry said.


    THE PARLIAMENT COMPLETED RESEARCH “CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR EXPORTING AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS TO EUROPEAN MARKET”

    Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Agrarian Issues and Committee on European Integration have completed mission-orientated research “Challenges and Opportunities for Exporting Agricultural Products to the European Market”. Report on the research and recommendations were considered at the joint meeting of the committees, held on July 9.


    ON THE BASIS OF THE PERMIT, IT WILL BE POSSIBLE TO OFFER GAMBLING AND WINNING GAMES OUTSIDE OF GEORGIA

    Legislative amendments, initiated by Georgian government, allow provision of gambling and winning games outside of Georgia upon obtaining the appropriate permit.

    Annual permit fee will be 100,000 lari.

    IN 2020, INVESTMENTS IN MAIN GAS PIPELINES WERE 2 TIMES LESS THAN PLANNED VOLUME

    Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission reported that total cost of investment projects, planned on high-pressure main gas pipelines in 2020, made up 8.16 million lari. In fact, however, investments of only 4.06 million lari were made (i.e. 2 times less than the plan), the Commission reported.


    IN 2020, INVESTMENTS IN GAS DISTRIBUTION SECTOR 2.6 TIMES EXCEEDED PLANNED VOLUME

    Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission reported that investments, planned in gas distribution sector in 2020, totaled to 42.98 million lari. In fact, however, investments of 112.38 million lari were made (i.e. 2.6 times more than planned volume), the Commission reported.
