    SPEAKER: THE PARLIAMENT TO HOLD THOROUGH CONSIDERATION IN CONNECTION WITH ISSUING RESIDENCE PERMITS TO FOREIGN CITIZENS

    Chairman of Georgian Parliament Irakli Kobakhidze declared that the Parliament will hold thorough consideration in connection with issuing of residence permits to foreign citizens. “So far, this question is only at the stage of preliminary consultations”, he noted.


    GEORGIAN PREMIER DISCUSSED ISSUES OF COOPERATION AT THE MEETING WITH THE US CONGRESSMEN

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze held a meeting with delegation of the US congressmen on August 12.

    As press service of the Premier said, attention at the meeting was paid to cooperation in defense and security.


    APPLICATIONS FOR VACANCY OF THE PENSION AGENCY DIRECTOR ARE ACCEPTED THROUGH AUGUST 29

    The Finance Ministry declared that the deadline for submission of applications for vacant position of the director of the Pension Agency is August 29. The competition for this position was announced on August 10.

    LARI CONTINUES DEPRECIATION

    The official exchange rate, set by National Bank of Georgia (NBG) for August 14, made up 2.5694 GEL/USD.

    To remind, lari has started drop on Friday (August 10), when NBG set official rate of 2.5339 GEL/USD for the next day.


    GEORGIAN SIDE STUDIES LITHUANIA’S EXPERIENCE IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND USE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that the Deputy Minister Giorgi Chikovani paid on August 9-10 a visit to Lithuania. The visit was held within “EnerVision Georgia” project, financed by Lithuania.


    AS OF JULY 1, TBILISI ACCOUNTED FOR 81.9% OF TOTAL CREDITS, ISSUED IN FOREIGN CURRENCY

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of July 1, Georgian banks issued in Tbilisi credits in foreign currency, equivalent to 10.23 billion lari, which made up 81.9% of total crediting in foreign currency to regions (12.49 billion lari). Crediting in Tbilisi increased by 3.7% quarter-on-quarter and by 16.8% year-on-year.


    AS OF JULY 1, TBILISI ACCOUNTED FOR 60.5% OF TOTAL CREDITS, ISSUED IN LARI

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of July 1, Georgian banks issued in Tbilisi credits in national currency, amounting to 6.2 billion lari, which made up 60.5% of total crediting in lari to regions (10.27 billion lari). Crediting in Tbilisi increased by 3.9% quarter-on-quarter, but decreased by 27.6% year-on-year.


    TBILISI CITY HALL: MAIN PART OF REHABILITATION OF ORBELIANI SQUARE WILL BE COMPLETED IN THE END OF THE YEAR

    The main part of rehabilitation of Orbeliani Square will be completed at the end of this year, Tbilisi City Hall declared.

    As the City Hall noted, total cost of the works makes up 55-60 million lari.
