    PREMIER: RESTRICTIONS ARE EXTENDED UNTIL FEBRUARY 1

    Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia confirmed today that restrictions, imposed in the end of November 2020 due to COVID-19 outbreak in the country, have been extended until February 1.

    While speaking at the government meeting, the Premier pointed at the positive dynamics over the past 2 months, however noted that about 1,500 daily cases of infection is quite high rate for Georgia.


    FROM FEBRUARY, FILLING OF EMPLOYEES’ REGISTER TO BECOME MANDATORY

    Georgian Revenue Service declared that starting from February 1, filling of employees register becomes mandatory.

    The Service specified that the employer is obliged to reflect until March 1 of this year information about employed persons (active and with suspended status) as of February 1.


    IN DEVELOPMENT OF 5G NETWORKS, GEORGIA TO COOPERATE WITH THE US

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that the country will cooperate with the US in development of wireless communication networks of the 5th generation (5G). The parties signed (online) memorandum on security of 5G networks on January 14.

    IN DECEMBER 2020, COST OF LIVING DECREASED BY 1.18% Y-O-Y

    Sakstat reported that in December 2020, cost of living (for an able-bodied man) in Georgia made up 192.5 lari. If compared with the same period of 2019, the showing has decreased by 2.3 lari (by 1.18%).


    IN 2020, NET FOREIGN ASSETS OF NBG INCREASED BY 24.6%

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that as of December 31, 2020, balance of its net foreign assets amounted to 10.9 billion lari. The volume has increased by 0.3% quarter-on-quarter and by 24.6% year-on-year.


    IN 2020, FOREIGN REMITTANCES TO GEORGIA INCREASED BY 6.3%

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that foreign remittances to Georgia totaled in 2020 to $1.9 billion. If compared with 2019, the volume has increased by 6.3%.


    IN 2020, REMITTANCES FROM GEORGIA ABROAD INCREASED BY 4%

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that remittances from Georgia abroad totaled in 2020 to $246.9 million. If compared with 2019, the volume has increased by 4%.


    IN 2020, IMPORT OF PETROL DECREASED IN NATURAL EXPRESSION BY 0.7%, DIESEL – INCREASED BY 2.5%

    Georgian Oil-Products Importers Union reported Georgia’s import of petrol and diesel fuel totaled in 2020 to 1.1 million t. If compared with 2019, the volume has increased by 0.9%.
