    2,190 CITIZENS FROM 90 COUNTRIES EXPRESSED THEIR DESIRE TO JOIN THE PROJECT “WORK FROM GEORGIA”

    Administration of the Georgian government declared that in the period from August 27, 2020 to January 17 of this year, 2,190 citizens from 90 countries expressed their desire to join the project “Work from Georgia”. The project was developed by Georgian National Tourism Administration last year.

    IN 2020, EU ACCOUNTED FOR 21.5% OF GEORGIA’S EXPORT, WHILE CIS – FOR 45.2%

    Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s export to the EU amounted in 2020 to $716.97 million. The EU accounted for 21.5% of Georgia’s total export, compared to 21.9% in 2019.


    GEORGIAN GOVERNMENT: THE WORLD BANK IS READY TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING INFRASTRUCTURE, CONNECTING GEORGIA AND THE EU

    The World Bank (WB) is ready to continue supporting infrastructure, connecting Georgia and the EU, including in direction of implementing strategic projects of regional importance, administration of Georgian government declared.

    At that, in the current period, the World Bank is willing to support efforts of Georgian government in direction of vaccination against COVID-19, the administration noted.


    IN 2020, EBRD’S INVESTMENTS IN GEORGIA INCREASED 2 TIMES

    EBRD representation in Georgia reported that 16 projects totaling to 630 million EUR were signed with Georgia in 2020. As the representation noted, this volume 2 times exceeds the showing of 2019.


    TBILISI MAYOR: LAST YEAR, THE CITY HALL FULFILLED THE BUDGET BY MORE THAN 96%

    Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze declared that the City Hall has fulfilled the budget for 2020 “by more than 96%”.

    In particular, 440 million lari were spent in infrastructure direction, the Mayor said at the city government meeting today.


    AS OF END OF 2020, NUMBER OF CREDIT CARDS DECREASED BY 10.4% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of December 31, 2020, there were 561,668 credit cards in circulation in the country. The number has decreased by 8.3% quarter-on-quarter and by 10.4% year-on-year.


    AS OF END OF 2020, NUMBER OF DEBIT CARDS INCREASED BY 3.3% Y-O-Y

    National Bank of Georgia reported that as of December 31, 2020, there were 561,668 debit cards in circulation in the country. The number has decreased by 0.3% quarter-on-quarter, but increased by 3.3% year-on-year.

    INDICATION OF PERSONAL NUMBER AND SMS CODE BECAME MANDATORY UPON TRANSFER OF FUNDS THROUGH INSTANT PAYMENT TERMINALS

    Upon making various transfers of funds through self-service terminals (instant payment terminals), it become mandatory to enter personal number and SMS code, sent to mobile phone of the payer, Georgia Banks Association reported.

    The decision, aiming protection of personal data of customers, was made by recommendation of National Bank of Georgia and is part of the strategy to combat money laundering and terrorism financing.
