    HEAD OF THE CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL: IF THE RATE OF WEARING MASKS REACHES 95%, COVID-19 INFECTION IN MAY WILL BE 10-77 DAILY CASES

    Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of Georgian National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, reported that current rate of wearing masks in Georgia makes up 75%. At that, he referred to forecast of the Institute of Health Indicators and Assessment, which expects that if the rate reaches 95%, then in May new daily cases of COVID-19 will be recorded in the range of 10-77.


    “TI GEORGIA”: DURING ELECTION CAMPAIGN-2020, RULING PARTY’S SHARE IN TOTAL DONATIONS WAS LESS THAN IN 2016

    TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, said that during Georgia’s parliamentary elections in 2020 (October 31), share of ruling party in total donations has decreased in comparison with previous campaign.

    In particular, during parliamentary elections of 2016, share of ruling Georgian Dream in total donations to elections’ participant parties (over 28 million lari) made up 68%.

    IN 2021, ONLY 50M LARI IS PROVIDED FOR CREDIT-AND-GUARANTEE SCHEME

    In allocations of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Georgia’s state budget-2021 envisages 50 million lari for the credit-and-guarantee scheme.

    To compare, the state budget-2020 envisaged for that end 330 million lari (i.e., the volume has reduced 6.6 times).


    FROM JANUARY 20 TO MAY, “ENGURHES” TO BE STOPPED FOR REPAIRS

    At midnight of January 20, Georgia’s largest hydroelectric station EngurHES will be stopped and repair works will start in its tunnel, which will be completed by the end of April, said Levan Mebonia, chairman of board of LLC EngurHES. On May 1, the station should already resume operation, he pointed.


    58% OF TANGERINE EXPORTS GO TO RUSSIA

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that for the period from August 1, 2020 to January 17, 2021, the country’s export of tangerines amounted to 35,400 t.

    Out of total, 20,500 t (or 58%) were delivered to Russia.

    IN 2020, 5 SYSTEMS SERVED 80.5% OF FOREIGN REMITTANCES TO GEORGIA

    National Bank of Georgia reported that in total volume of foreign remittances to Georgia in 2020 ($1.9 billion), 5 systems accounted for 80.5%, or $1.5 billion.

    On the first place is RIA, which served 19.5% of total remittances to Georgia, or $367.9 million.


    IN 2020, 5 SYSTEMS SERVED 92.6% OF REMITTANCES FROM GEORGIA ABROAD

    National Bank of Georgia reported that in total volume of foreign remittances from Georgia abroad in 2020 ($246.9 million), 5 systems accounted for 92.6%, or $228.6 million.

    On the first position is Golden Crown again, which served 46.7% of total remittances from Georgia, or $115.2 million.

    IN 2020, OFFENDERS INFLICTED ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGE OF OVER 4 M LARI

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported that damage, inflicted in 2020 to environment of Georgia by offenders, exceeded 4 million lari. During the year, fines for environmental violations totaled to 2.9 million lari, the Ministry noted.
