   Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation informs that its subsidiary Gas Transportation Company has launched emergency repairs on gas pipeline in Kazbegi district (Mtskheta-Mtianeti region). Zurab Janjgava, the Corporation director general, said that matter concerns section, which was damaged by snow-slide in spring.

   Tbilisi has new Deputy Mayor, Sulkhan Sisauri. Sisauri has replaced Zurab Arsoshvili, having a seat in the Parliament now.

3. JSC SAKTSIVPRODUCTI FIXED 367,068 LARI PROFIT IN 2007

   According to the report of JSC Saktsivproducti (Georgian Cold Production), income made up 2.08 million lari in 2007, profit – 367,068 lari.

   The company implemented import last year, increased the volume of produced and processed production and the assortment.

4. Rezonansi: “TALKS ABOUT ANNULMENT OF EXCISE ON FUEL START IN THE PARLIAMENT AS WELL”

   Socially unprotected farmers cannot cultivate the land because of risen prices on fuel. Experts note that situation is caused by growing of prices on fuel on the international market and expect future growth of prices on primary products in the country.

5. JSC TBILGVINO PAID 1.15M LARI IN DIVIDENDS IN 2007

   According to annual report of JSC Tbilgvino (Tbilisi Wine), shareholders meeting, held in August 2007, decided to distribute net profit of 2006 (366,191 lari) among the company’s shareholders: Giorgi Margvelashvili (50%) and Zurab Margvelashvili (50%). Accordingly, each of them got 183,095 lari.

6. HEAD OF GEORGIAN OIL AND GAS CORPORATION ACQUAINTED HIMSELF WITH WORKS ON MAIN GAS PIPELINE IN MARNEULI

   Director general of Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation Zurab Janjgava and director of Georgian Gas Transportation Company Grigol Natroshvili visited today rehabilitation works, which are held on Kesalo-Marneuli-Dmanisi-Tsalka section of main gas pipeline in Marneuli district (Kvemo Kartli region).

   Georgian Gas Transportation Company replaces the damaged parts of the section, which makes up 20 km in length.

7. EBRD TO INVEST 500,000 EUR IN BASISBANK MODERNIZATION

   European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will invest 500,000 EUR in establishment of new organizational structure and institutional changes in Basisbank, Zurab Tsikhistavi, Georgian bank director general, has said at the briefing today.

   According to Tsikhistavi, implementation of 3-year plan, worked out jointly with EBRD, scopes offering of new products, updating of risk-management, consultations of foreign experts.

8. EXPERT ZURAB GARAKANIDZE: LLC GEORGIAN RAILWAY ALIENATION SHOULD BE MADE THROUGH STOCK EXCHANGE ONLY

   As expert in the office of State Minister in European Integration Issues told Sarke if the government carries out LLC Georgian Railway alienation, it should be made through placement of shares on Stock Exchange only. With that, 51% of shares should be maintained in the state ownership.

9. COORDINATION COUNCIL OF GUAM COUNTRIES BANK ASSOCIATIONS WAS CREATED

   As Azerbaijani information agency Trend.az informs, agreement was signed today in Baku on creation of Coordination Council of GUAM countries Bank Associations.

   Agreement was signed by presidents of banking associations of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova – member-countries of GUAM.

10. NEW RESOLUTION OF THE UN

    Inspiration in Tbilisi and negative reaction in Moscow followed the UN General Assembly resolution on internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Abkhazia, adopted on 15 May. According to the press, the document points to the necessity to develop a timetable for their immediate and voluntary return, recognizes their right to return property.

11. EXPERT ZURAB GARAKANIDZE: STATE ENTERPRISES SHOULD BE UNITED IN SINGLE HOLDING

    Zurab Garakanidze, expert in the office of State Minister in European Integration Issues, suggests uniting state enterprises in single holding. “The institutional mechanism should be set up, which will move privatization issues from competence of Economic Development Ministry to the holding, operating on market principles,” Garakanidze says.

12. EXPERTS POINT AT IMPERFECTIONS IN GEORGIAN PRIVATIZATION

    As it was noted at presentation of research “Some Problems of Investment Safety in Georgia”, prepared by Georgian Center for Strategic Research and Development, 68 objects were directly sold in 2007, while this number made up only 17 in the year 2006, as for the years 2004-2005 – it made up 8.

    Zurab Garakanidze, expert of the office of State Minister for European Integration, noted that in order to make privatization process in Georgia more transparent, direct selling conditions should be strictly specified.

14. GORI FRUIT EXPORT COMPANY INCOME DECREASED BY 47% IN 2007

    Zurab Abalaki, director general of LLC Gori Fruit Export Company, told Sarke that company’s income made up nearly 40,000 lari in 2007, which is less by 47% compared with the previous year.

    Abalaki said that the decrease was caused by fruit export implementation to Ukraine only in 2007, while it was implemented to Russia (via Tskhinvali) as well in 2006.

15. JSC AMALTEA GOT THE PROFIT IN 2007, THROUGH RENTING AND ASSETS SELLING

    According to JSC Amaltea (dairy producer) report of 2007, net profit amounted to 154,736 lari, which is by 54% less than in 2006. JSC ceased its production in 2006, and all its revenues were originated from renting and assets selling since that.

16. JSC BAKHTRIONI SELLS ITS ASSETS

    Nato Alpaidze, marketing manager of JSC Bakhtrioni (hosiery producing), told Sarke that JSC is halted because of lack of demand and uncompetitiveness of the enterprise.

    However, according to the JSC report, the company net profit made up 1.3 million lari in 2007, which is by 5.5 times more than previous year.

17. GIOGIE-2008 CONFERENCE WAS OPENED TODAY IN TBILISI

    The 7^th international oil, gas, infrastructure and energy conference GIOGIE-2008 was opened today in Tbilisi, which is held under the patronage of Georgian Prime Minister, Energy Ministry and Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation.

    250 delegates from 15 countries, such as Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, the US, attend the conference.

18. KALA CAPITAL TO DO BUSINESS IN THREE DIRECTIONS

20. AMENDMENTS TO LAW “ON ELECTRIC ENERGY AND NATURAL GAS” CAUSED DISPUTE ON FISCAL COMMITTEE MEETING

    Fiscal Committee of the Parliament supported today in the 1^st hearing amendments to law “On Electric Energy and Natural Gas”, despite disagreement of some deputies. The amendments permit owners of new-built electric stations to set price for the generated electric energy (upon agreement with the Georgian government and Energy System Commercial Operator), instead of the regulating commission.
