Mogens Hansens, the director of LLC Batumi Oil Terminal (Batumi Oil Terminal), has announced the construction of the thermal power station in Kobuleti (Ajara), which was closed in 2003, has resumed. The decision was made following the talks between Jan Bonde Nielsen, a Danish businessman and chairman of the board of directors of the LLC with Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli and Ajara leader Levan Varshalomidze.

MP Zurab Tkemaladze (Industrialists – Right Opposition) has said the Finance Ministry’s proposal to restructure the customs debt runs counter to both the Tax Code and Constitution during the consideration of adequate legislative amendments at a meeting of the Financial and Budgetary Committee of Parliament today. Tkemaladze thinks the approval of amendments will make it legal not to pay taxes.

GEORGIA AGREES WITH TURKEY ON ELECTRICITY IMPORTS

Georgia will commence electricity imports from Turkey in several days, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli told journalists today. The national center for intellectual property, Sakpatenti has applied to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for the international registration of a number of wine and mineral water brands produced in certain geographical zones such as Khvanchkara, Mukuzani, Akhasheni (wines), Borjomi and Nabeglavi (mineral waters). Registration is essential to produce high quality products and avoid adulteration, Merab Kvimsadze, deputy director general of Sakpatenti, told Sarke.
458,400 LARI EARMARKED FOR OFFICES OF PRESIDENT’S REPRESENTATIVES IN REGIONS

The government’s 2005 reserve fund has disbursed 458,400 lari for the regulation of salaries of offices of president’s plenipotentiaries in regions, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli has announced the decision at a government meeting today. Of the money 65,900 lari will go to the office of the president’s representative in the Shida Kartli region (according to the number of the staff), 65,800 lari to Kvemo Kartli, 54,300 to Mtskheta-Mtianeti, 48,800 lari to Samtskhe-Javakheti, 47,100 lari to the Imereti region, 45,700 lari to Kakheti, 44,600 lari to Racha-Lechkhumi, 43,100 lari to the Zemo Svaneti region, while 40,100 lari to Guria.
354,527 LARI MAY BE ISSUED FOR CIS SUMMIT IN TBILISI

Georgia has proposed to hold a meeting of the council of heads of CIS states in Tbilisi (in Sheraton Metechi Palace hotel) on June 3. 354,527 lari will be disbursed from the reserve fund to hold the summit, which may take place in Georgia for the first time, Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli told journalists today.
ISRAELI AIR COMPANY TO RESUME FLIGHTS IN JUNE

Israeli air company Arkia plans to resume regular Tel-Aviv – Tbilisi – Tel-Aviv flights from June 10, 2005, Sarke was told in the Civil Aviation Administration. The air company entered the Georgian market in June 2004, while in October it suspended the flights.
