The contract with United Energy Distribution Company (UEDC) run by American PA Consulting Government Service (since May 2003) has been extended by two more years (to November 2006).
Din White, the director general of the energy company, told a press conference today the agreement with Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania had been signed on November 6.
UNDP DISBURSES $750,000 TO GEORGIA FOR INCREASING STATE CONTROL SYSTEM EFFICIENCY

The Georgian government has signed an agreement with the UN Development Program (UNDP) today on disbursing $750,000 in grants to the Chamber of Control for increasing the efficiency of the state control system. Georgia’s co-financing of the 24-months project is 10%.
LONDON TO HOST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE INVEST IN GEORGIA

International conference Invest in Georgia, organized by the initiative of the EBRD and the Georgian government, will be held in London on November 11, reports the Economic Development Ministry. As part of Georgian days in Poland Georgia will exhibit its wines and food products in the country on December 15. It is to become the first joint project of the Georgian Foreign Affairs Ministry with the Georgian Trade and Industrial Chamber, which have concluded today an agreement on cooperation and coordination of operations.
PARLIAMENT’S JURIDICAL COMMITTEE CRITICIZES PROPOSED VERSION OF AMNESTY

The Juridical Committee of Parliament has disapproved today the bill “On Legalization of Hidden Tax Liabilities and Property”. The Committee is against the document’s introduction to a plenary meeting of Parliament unless the government takes remarks into consideration.
TBILAVIAMSHENI SOLD FOR $67M

The government has considered behind closed doors and approved a direct sale of JSC Tbilaviamsheni, the Tbilisi air plant, to LLC Tbilaviamsheni for $67 million. The money is to be paid during a year.

GEORGIA PLANS TO LAUNCH JOINT PRODUCTION OF MALT WITH FRANCE

The Georgian side has been in talks over setting up a joint malt production enterprise in Georgia with French Sufflet Group (which has a 70% share on the international market). Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania, Economic Development Minister Kakha Bendukidze and Russian Transport Minister Igor Levitin have signed an economic cooperation agreement in Tbilisi today.
One of major issues considered during Levitin’s visit was the restoration of a railway communication between Georgia and Russia, for which complete repairs of the section of the railway crossing Abkhazia is essential.

PARLIAMENT APPROVES KEY PROVISIONS OF THE TAX CODE

Parliament has adopted the draft Tax Code in the first hearing by 124 votes to 19 at a plenary meeting today. However, MPs have yet to receive the final version of the document, worked out after consultations between the government and lawmakers, which has raised some confusion.

Tbilisi Mayor Zurab Chiaberashvili demanded resignation of Zurab Adamia, gamgebeli (head of the administration of a district) of the Isani-Samgori district of the capital after the latter gave him today an expensive watch as a present.
The Mayor was indignant over the fact that the gamgebeli with the salary of 160 lari plus $200 bonus could buy the watch that cost $1,500.
