   Offshore works in the deep-sea port of Anaklia, started in September 2024, will be completed in about 3 years, according to the contract. Together with Georgian partners, building of the sea area of the port is carried out by the Belgian company Jan De Nul NV.

   A resistance platform with participation of pro-European political parties is needed, declared fifth president of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili, speaking at a protest rally on March 31.

   Zurabishvili indicated that “in order to achieve the goal, it is necessary that this struggle, along with street protest and in accordance with it, acquire a political format”.

   On March 17, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights decided to reject the complaint of Georgia’s government, organization Young Lawyers reports. The government appealed against the ruling of European Court, made in August 2024.

   On March 11, the European Parliament approved a plan of assistance to Moldova, totaling to 1.9 billion EUR, including grant of 520 million EUR and low-interest loan of 1.5 billion EUR.

   In turn, the mayor of Tbilisi and the secretary general of the Georgian Dream Kakha Kaladze started talks about the “promised grants” that Georgia was supposed to get after receiving the status of EU membership candidate.

   Mikhail Kavelashvili, president of Georgian Dream, revoked the complaint filed with the Constitutional Court by the fifth President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili, reports Netgazeti.Ge.

   Zurabishvili demanded abolition of the so-called “Russian Law” (law “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”).

8. GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT: INTERIM COMMISSION OF INQUIRY EXAMINED THE CASE OF BUSINESSMAN BESARION KHARDZIANI

   The interim commission of inquiry, created by Georgia’s parliament to study activities of political officials of 2003-2012 (i.e. during ruling of the United National Movement), examined today the case of businessman Besarion Khardziani. The case concerns stakes in the company managing area of Turtle Lake in Tbilisi.

   Tbilisi city court sentenced Georgia’s third president Mikheil Saakashvili to combined 12.6 years in prison in cases of illegal border crossing and embezzlement of budget funds.

   Regarding the court decision, Saakashvili himself declared: “I will be dangerous for you both in prison and dead, because my name is connected with the struggle for freedom, victory and success of Georgia!” “We are fighting and must fight, fight, there is no other option”, he said.

    David Kezerashvili (Georgian defense minister in 2006-2008) handed over his 26% stake in TV company Formula to the co-founders.

    Initially, Kezerashvili owned 51% of the shares, but he handed over 25% to a non-profit legal entity Liberty Formula in 2023.

    “A fine of 5,000 lari, i.e. 19-fold of the subsistence minimum, is equated with criminal punishment and is clearly disproportionate”, says Nona Kurdovanidze, chairman of Georgian Young Lawyers Association.

    On February 18, the fifth president of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili (who returned from Munich, where she participated in a security conference), was attacked at the airport of Tbilisi by unknown persons, who thrown eggs at her.

    Zurabishvili said that she filed a complaint with the police about the attack and laid responsibility for incident on the Georgian Dream.

    On February 13, the European Parliament will adopt a resolution “On the further deterioration of the political situation in Georgia”.

    According to the draft of the resolution, MEPs do not recognize results of the “deeply flawed and marked by grave irregularities” parliamentary elections held in Georgia on October 26, indicating that they failed “to reflect the will of the people and rendering the resulting “parliament”, and subsequently the “president”, devoid of any democratic legitimacy”.
