COUNCIL OF EUROPE COMMISSIONER ON HUMAN RIGHTS ARRIVING IN TBILISI

The official visit of the Council of Europe Commissioner on Human Rights Alvaro Hil-Roblez will last 10 days. In the course of the visit the guest will meet the Georgian President and other top officials of the country.




UN OBSERVERS ARRIVED IN TBILISI AFTER VISITING ABKHAZIA

Today, after returning back from Abkhazia, the delegation of the UN military and civil political advisers met the President of Georgia. The observers got acquainted with the situation in Abkhazia, the conflict settlement prospects and the UN mission activities.




CIS EXECUTIVE SECRETARY MET THE COMMANDER OF PEACEKEEPING TROOPS

The CIS Executive Secretary Yuri Yarov and the commander of peacekeeping forces Sergei Korobko have discussed the questions concerning the process of peacekeeping operations, during their meeting held in Sukhumi. We’ll remind to you that the mandate of the collective forces on supporting peace in the conflict zone expires on June 30.




GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT CONFIRMED 2 MORE CANDIDATURES OF MINISTERS

Nino Chkhobadze has become the Minister of Environment Protection and Natural Resources again (123 deputies voted pro, 44 – against). It should be noted that her candidature was not supported during the previous hearing, conducted at the Committee oEnvironment Protection (6 voted pro, 8 – against) that was caused by her permission on the import of pirolised pitch, destined for local gas producers.

PARLIAMENT HAS RATIFIED AGREEMENTS WITH 3 STATES ON AVOIDING DOUBLE TAXATION

The Georgian Parliament has ratified agreement concluded between the governments of Georgia and Russia “On Avoiding Double Taxation of Revenues (Benefits) and Capital (Assets) and Suppression of Non-Payment of Taxes”. It was signed in Moscow, in August 1999.

PRESIDENT DETERMINED WAGE-RATES FOR JUDGES

According to the President’s decree “On determination of wage-rates for judges of general courts, allowances to official salaries and expanses for accommodation”, salaries for the chairmen of Abkhaz and Ajara Autonomy Supreme Courts are determined to be 630 Lari, chairmen of district courts – 610 Lari. The first vice-chairmen of Abkhaz and Ajara Autonomy Supreme Courts will receive 585 Lari, vice-chairmen of district courts – 575 Lari.




BROTHER OF DEFENSE MINSTER KILLED IN THE CAR EXPLOSION

The car, with Guram Tevzadze behind the wheel, the brother of the Defense Minister David Tevzadze, exploded at the Tbilisi entrance today. Guram Tevzadze died at the spot.
