    GEORGIA RATIFIED FREE TRADE AGREEMENT WITH THE UK

    Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Gennady Arveladze pointed that before the UK agreed its exit from the EU (Brexit), Georgia signed with the UK the free trade agreement, which is already ratified by the Georgian side.

    Arveladze declared that “now, we expect the same from Britain”.


    DEPUTY ECONOMY MINISTER: EXPEDIENCY STUDY OF FREE TRADE WITH INDIA IS COMPLETED, WITH ISRAEL – IS AT THE FINAL STAGE

    Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Gennady Arveladze declared that study of expediency of free trade agreement with India is completed.

    Text of the agreement is already prepared and negotiation groups on both sides are created also, Arveladze pointed.


    GEORGIA AND AZERBAIJAN DISCUSSED CORE ISSUES OF ECONOMIC COOPERATION

    Georgian government declared that core issues of bilateral economic cooperation were discussed within visit to Georgia of Economy Minister of Azerbaijan Mikayil Jabbarov.

    As the government noted, the parties plan implementation of new joint projects in spheres of transport, transit, logistics, communications and energy.

    DEPUTY ECONOMY MINISTER: SHARE OF THE EU IN GEORGIA’S NET EXPORT RAISED FROM 22% IN 2014 TO 31% IN 2019

    Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Gennady Arveladze declared that share of the EU in Georgia’s net export has raised from 22% in 2014 to 31% in 2019. This is “result of effective implementation” of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement with the EU (DCFTA), he pointed.


    IN 2019, REGIONAL PROJECTS FUND ALLOCATED 422.57M LARI, MOUNTAIN SETTLEMENTS DEVELOPMENT FUND – 19.96M LARI

    Georgian Finance Ministry’s Treasury Service reported that fund for implementation of projects in regions allocated in 2019 total of 422.57 million lari in 29 cases. As of January 1, 2020, the unspent sum from these allocations made up 10.31 million lari (i.e. 2.4% of total allocations).


    IN 2019, ALLOCATIONS OF THE GOVERNMENT RESERVE FUND AMOUNTED TO 55.64M LARI

    Georgian Finance Ministry’s Treasury Service reported that reserve fund of the country’s governments allocated in 2019 total of 55.64 million lari in 63 cases. As of January 1, 2020, the unspent sum from these allocations made up 1.04 million lari (i.e. 1.9% of total allocations).


    RULE OF DEFINITION AND RISK ASSESSMENT OF ECONOMIC ACTIVITY’S PRIORITY SPHERES IS ENACTED

    Following the law “On Labor Safety”, rule of definition and risk assessment of priority spheres of economic activity is approved. Respective resolution of Georgian government entered in force from today (upon publication).

    EMC: ALIENATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES SHOULD NOT BE CARRIED OUT UNTIL CORRECTION OF LEGISLATIVE SHORTCOMINGS, SPECIFIED IN STRATEGY OF MINING SECTOR

    Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) urges Georgian government “to refrain from alienation of natural resources until correction of legislative shortcomings, described in the strategy document of mining sector”.

    Existing rules of issue of mining licenses have to be revised, taking into account these failures, EMC considers.
