    WORK ON AGREEMENT WITH CANADA ON INVESTMENTS’ PROTECTION AND ENCOURAGEMENT IS UNDERWAY

    By request of Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, work on the agreement on bilateral protection and encouragement of investments with Canada is underway, press service of the Premier reported.

    According to Sakstat, Canadian direct investments in Georgia amounted in 2018 to only $174,200, decreasing year-on-year by 9.7%.

    ENACTMENT OF CONSTRUCTION CODE FOR TBILISI IS PLANNED TO POSTPONE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2020

    Bidzina Gegidze, chairman of parliamentary fraction of ruling Georgian Dream, said that term of enactment of Georgian Construction Code for Tbilisi is planned to postpone until September 2020.

    At that, development regulation plans, which are already approved by Tbilisi municipality, keep their validity until 2025, the MP noted.


    TERM OF LAND REGISTRATION IS PLANNED TO EXTEND UNTIL JANUARY 1, 2020

    Georgian Parliament reported that terms of land registration of within the state project are planned to be prolonged until January 1, 2020.

    The project of simplified land registration was launched begun on August 1, 2016, and its terms were already prolonged until July 1 of the current year.


    IN 2018, INCOME OF ENTITIES, OPERATING IN TELECOM SPHERE, INCREASED BY 1.4%

    Georgian National Communication Commission reported that total income of entities, authorized for operation in sphere of electronic communications, amounted in 2018 to 1.24 billion lari (excluding VAT and excise). If compared with 2017, the volume has increased by 1.4%.

    IN 2018, NUMBER OF MOBILE SUBSCRIBERS DECREASED BY 3.6%, WHILE RETAIL INCOME OF MOBILE OPERATORS INCREASED BY 7.3%

    Georgian National Communication Commission reported that there were 5.3 million subscribers of mobile communication in the country by the end of 2018 (the 4th quarter). If compared with the same period of 2017, the number has decreased by 3.6%.


    IN 2018, INCOME OVER 100M LARI IN ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION WAS GAINED BY 4 ENTITIES

    Georgian National Communication Commission reported that income over 100 million lari was gained in 2018 by 4 out of 358 entities, engaged in electronic communications in Georgia. In 2017, such income was gained also by 4 entities.


    COMMUNICATION COMMISSION URGES “MAGTICOM” TO PROVIDE SUBSCRIBERS OF “MAGTIFIX” WITH ALTERNATIVE SERVICE

    Georgian National Communication Commission said that term of CDMA license of local operator MagtiCom expires on June 17, respectively, the company will not be able to serve subscribers of MagtiFix service (wireless fixed phone) after this date.

    The Commission pointed that it offered during more than 2 months various options of license renewal and a number of concessions in this regard to the company.


    “SAKARTVELOS BANKI” ALLOCATED $32M FOR CONSTRUCTION OF “HILTON” IN TBILISI

    Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia) declared about allocation of $32 million for construction of Hilton hotel on Kostava Street in Tbilisi.

    The bank specified that total investments in the project of the 5-star 201-room hotel will make up $67 million.
