    DECISION OVER THE GOVERNMENT’S REPORT ON BUDGET-99 IS TO BE PREPARED FOR SEPTEMBER 15

    On May 17, at its plenary session, the Parliament adopted decision over the government report on the implementation of the state budget 1999 (129 deputies voted pro, 21 – against). The Parliament did not confirmed but took note the report presented by the government, in consideration of the notes of the Chamber of Control.


    CZECH REPUBLIC READY TO HELP GEORGIA IN JOINING NATO

    This is the announcement made by the ambassador of Czech Republic Irji Nekvasil, noting the common foreign economic priorities of Czech Republic and Georgia. Touching upon the prospects of the development of economic relations, Nekvasil said the agreements on avoidance of the double taxation and investment protection would be signed till the end of the year.


    DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER OF IRAN HAS VISITED TBILISI

    During his short working visit Mortez Sarmadi, who arrived in Georgia today, met the President Eduard Shevardnadze. According to the President’s press-service, the prospects and condition of relations between the 2 countries as well as other issues of common interests were discussed.


    SAAKASHVILI RAISED A CLAIM AGAINST THE CHAMBER OF CONTROL

    As the leader of the fraction of Citizens’ Union Mikheil Saakashvili declared at the press conference today, when the case on some violation is transferred to Prosecutor’s Office, cultprit points to the note issued by the Chamber of Control and consequently appears to be innocent. This kind of conduct of the Chamber of Control, Saakashvili noted, is raising concerns, stressing he considers Revaz Shavishvili (the Chairman of the Chamber) a decent man.


    PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE SUPPORTED MIKHAIL MACHAVARIANI’S CANDIDATURE ON THE POST OF THE TAX REVENUES MINISTER

    Mikheil Machavariani, addressing the Parliamentary Committee on Taxes and Revenues today, declared that the key moment in the reformation of the tax system arrived. If this reform is not implemented the creation of the Ministry of Tax Revenues is senseless, he stressed and declared that the session of the government is to consider the ministry’s position in the near future.

    MEASURES FOR REFORMATION OF STATE PURCHASES OUTLINED

    According to the order of the President of Georgia, the Economics Ministry is to elaborate the bill, envisaging amendments to the law “On State Purchases”. The same Ministry is assigned to work out the bill “On State Purpose-Oriented Programs”.


    200,000 LARI ALLOCATED TO TREASURY SERVICE FROM THE PRESIDENT’S FUND

    This sum, according to the order of the President of Georgia, will be directed towards financing of the Treasury Service building reconstruction as well as purchasing of its inventory. As the document puts it, the decision satisfies mediation of the Finance Ministry.


    FAO GOING TO IMPLEMENT THE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON THE POTABLE WATER EXPORT FROM GEORGIA

    According to the acting Minister of Agriculture Bakur Gulua, this is about the 1-% of the world export. FAO experts will arrive in Georgia in the near future for studying the prospects of the program realization.

    RUSSIAN DELEGATION WILL DISCUSS WITH GEORGIAN COLLEAGUES RESULTS AND PROSPECTS OF JOINT WORKS IN ENERGETICS SPHERE

    The Russian delegation will arrive on a 2-day visit on May 19 in order to participate in the assembly of the JSC Gruzrosenergo shareholders. RAO EES Rossii and the state company Sakenergo are the founders of this joint enterprise.

    BAND OF BOYEVIKS MOVED FROM GUDAUTA TO GALI

    As Sarke was informed by the sources at the Georgian force structures, the band of 30 boyeviks entered city of Gali on May 17. The entry of additional forces is not ruled out that according to the source, raises a real danger of conducting punitive operations by them against the Georgian villages i.e. the lower security zone.
