    GEORGIAN DELEGATION WILL PARTICIPATE IN NORTHATLANTIC COUNCIL SESSION AND NORTHATLANTIC PARTNERSHIP COUNCIL

    The session will be held on the level of foreign ministers in Florence from May 24 to 25. The heads of NATO 19 member-countries’ ministries will participate in the work of the North Atlantic Council, as for the North Atlantic partnership Counbesides members-countries, heads of the MFAs of NATO 27 partner-countries will participate in it as well.


    VAKHTANG KUTATELADZE NOT RULING OUT BREAKTHROUGH OF MUSLIM BOYEVIKS TO CHECHNYA

    According to the Acting State Security Minister, there is a danger that in one month the armed boyeviks will attempt to break through Azerbaijan and Pankisi canyon to Chechnya. He noted the aggravated situation in Pankisi canyon, where the Chechen refugees are finding a temporal shelter and did not rule out that part of them might join boyeviks.


    GEORGIA AND IRAN EXCHANGED OPINIONS ON TRANSPORTATION OF CASPIAN POWER RESOURCES

    This is the information delivered to Sarke at the Foreign Ministry of Georgia, while commenting yesterday’s meeting between the acting Foreign Minister of Georgia and Deputy Foreign Minster of Iran. According to the Foreign Ministry, Irakli Menagarishvili and Martez Sarmadi also discussed the questions concerning bilateral relations and it was noted in this connection that their development level was not satisfactory.


    GEORGIA GENERALLY SUPPORTS FREE TRADE ZONE INTRODUCTION IN CIS

    This is the information delivered to Sarke by the director of the Public Information Department of the Foreign Ministry Avtandil Napetvaridze, who has noted the necessity to maximally consider the interests of all member-countries. As he put its, the interests of the CIS countries do not completely conform one another for the present that is displayed by the lists of goods, supposed to be tax free, introduced by them.


    GIORGI ARSENISHVILI HAS BECOME THE NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL MEMBER

    According to the decree of the Georgian President, the new State Minister Giorgi Arsenishvili is introduced in the composition of the National Security Council. The former state minister Vazha Lortkipanidze has been brought out of its composition.


    CANDIDATURES OF NUMBER OF MINISTERS CONFIRMED

    The Parliament confirmed Sesili Gogiberidze as the Minister of Culture, Mikheil Machavariani – Tax Revenues Minister, Zurab Nogaideli – Finance Minister (138 deputies voted pro, 8-against), Vano Chkhartishvili – Minister of Economics, Industry and Trade.

    The candidatures on the post of Interior Minister (Kakha Targamadze), State Security Minister (Vakhtang Kutateladze), Defense Minister (David Tevzadze) and Foreign Minister (Irakli Menagarishvili) are yet to be confirmed at this moment.


    CHAIRMAN OF THE CHAMBER OF CONTROL RESIGNED

    Today, Revaz Shavishvili informed the session of the Parliament about his decision to resign. He noted that he had met the President of the country prior to this.


    KAKHA TARGAMADZE CONSIDERS NECESSARY TO DETACH OPERATIVE AND INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES FROM INTERIOR MINISTRY

    This suggestion has been made by the acting Interior Minster, while commenting his plans on the reorganization of the Ministry in case of his confirmation for the second term. According to Targamadze, after their detachment from the Ministry as well as analogous services from State Security Ministry, the separate structure should be created on their base.

    BAKU-TBILISI-CEYHAN OIL PIPELINE PROJECTS’ PRESENTATION HAS BEEN HELD

    The President of the Georgian International Oil Corporation Gia Chanturia in his speech delivered during the presentation held at the Georgian Academy of Science, stressed the importance of this great project for the country. Consequently, Georgian scientists have asked him many questions, concerning the different aspects of the project, including the environment and historic monuments protection.

    ABKHAZIA’S POPULATION GOES ABROAD BY GEORGIAN PASSPORTS

    As the President’s aid on international issues Levan Aleksidze informed Sarke, the passports were issued by the Georgian consulate in Moscow. He could not name their exact number however.
