    Another meeting within the Georgian-Russian informal dialogue was held on February 27 in Prague, at which the parties discussed problems in connection with implementation of Georgia-Russia agreement of 2011 “On Basic Principles, Connected to Mechanisms of Customs Administration and Monitoring of Commodity Trade”, Georgian government reported.

    The government pointed that “it was indicated that settlement of problems in the course of full-fledge enactment of the Agreement has to be carried out within the working group, created by the joint committee, provided by the Agreement”.

    Zurab Chekurashvili, head of Georgian National Food Agency, declared that lead in 2018 was revealed only in 2% of examined samples, whereas in 2017 – in 17.5%.

    “It is important that content of lead did not exceed norm in 2018 in samples of baby food, as well as fish, bakery products, grain and vegetables”, Chekurashvili pointed.

  6. NEW ENTERPRISE FOR PROCESSING OF TEA AND SPICES LAUNCHED IN MTSKHETA MUNICIPALITY

    Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported about launch of new enterprise for processing of tea and spices in Saguramo village of Mtskheta municipality (Mtskheta-Mtianeti region).

    According to the Ministry, the enterprise, employing 20 people, will produce 8 t of tea and 4 t of spices annually.

  7. WITHIN “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA”, CEMENT PRODUCTS’ ENTERPRISE TO BE OPENED IN KHOBI

    With assistance of “Produce in Georgia” state program, LLC Prime Beton will start manufacturing cement products in Khobi (Samegrelo region), investing $1.7 million in the enterprise, Georgian National Agency of State Property declared.

    For this purpose, the Agency handed over land site of 16,686 square m with structures to the company.

    In the 1st round of presidential elections in Georgia, about 1.64 million voters took part, while their number in the 2nd round made up 1.98 million, Netgazeti.Ge reports, pointing that opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze won 780,635 votes in the 2nd tour, i.e. by 180,000 votes more, than in the 1st tour, while Salome Zurabishvili, backed by ruling Georgian Dream – 1.15 million voices, i.e. by 532,053 more.

    The article brings comments on the 2nd round, made by Tbilisi State University professor Iago Kachkachishvili, director of Caucasus Research Resources Center Koba Turmanidze and chairman of Caucasian Institute for Peace, Democracy and Development Gia Nodia.

    Referring to research of Edison Research, Tabula reports that if the second round of presidential elections was held tomorrow, Grigol Vashadze (candidate of the united opposition) had won 38%, while Salome Zurabishvili (candidate, supported by ruling Georgian Dream) – 34%,.

    At that, 18% of respondents refused to answer a question, and 10% do not support any candidate.

    As far as we know, reasons of recent fluctuations of exchange rate on currency market are not connected with fundamental economic factors, National Bank of Georgia (NBG) pointed in the special statement today.

    Instead, NBG pointed that current dynamics of the rate is negatively affected by environment, created in the country because of presidential elections (to remind, the first round of elections was held on October 28, while the second round, where pro-governmental candidate Salome Zurabishvili will compete with opposition candidate Grigol Vashadze, is not appointed yet).
