    The head of the guerilla group “Forest Brothers”, Dato Shengelia insists that the Prosecutor General’s Office should question him over the case regarding the car carrying illegal weapon that was detained by the police on June 18.

    The investigator refused to question me, as they [the authorities] do not need guerillas any more, said Shengelia at a press conference today.

    Commenting on June 29 session of the Citizens’ Union (CUG), Rezonansi writes: the President’s Party is going to be born again. The Chinese say man comes twice to this world, it seems the Party has a similar fate, the newspaper seemsironical, noting: the CUG first birth went under the slogan – million workplaces, the second promise will probably be timely delivery of 14 Lari pensions.

  3. CHAMBER OF CONTROL POINTS OUT VIOLATIONS IN ENERGY SPHERE

    The National Commission on Energy Regulation came in for criticism by the Chamber of Control at a meeting of the Branch Economy Committee of Parliament today.

    Vladimir Pataridze, deputy chairman of the Chamber of Control, said in particular, the commission, had not prevented misappropriation of funds by the JSC Sakgaz (the mediator in gas supplies), resulting into rising of gas tariffs.

  4. DEMOCRATS SPEAK ABOUT PROBLEMS WITH TBILGAZ

    At a press briefing today Giorgi Baramidze (the Democrats faction of Parliament) and a member of the city Sakrebulo (the self-government body) David Khutsishvili, both of who represent Zurab Zhvania, ex-speaker’s team, spoke about problems with the JSC Tbilgaz, the gas distribution company of the capital. They said they would consider the question at the first meeting of the new Sakrebulo.

  5. PARLIAMENT CONFIRMS AUTHORITY OF RE-ELECTED DEPUTIES

    Today’s plenary session confirmed results of the June 2 elections of majority-deputies from a number of regions.

    Vacant seats in Parliament has been occupied by Mikhail Machavariani (ex-minister of tax revenues) from the Samgori district of Tbilisi, Jamlet Babilashvili (former prosecutor general) from Sagarejo (the Kakheti region), Nika Kvezereli (former commander of a special unit of the National Security Ministry) from Gurjaani, Badri Khatidze (the former head of the State Office regional management service) from Mtskheta.

  6. ZHVANIA BECOMES HEAD OF NEW PARTY

    A political group United Democrats elected Zurab Zhvania, ex speaker, as chairman at a constituent congress today. Zhvania said a new party would strive to create free society of western orientation.

  7. CEC ANNOUNCES CITY SAKREBULO ELECTIONS FINAL RESULTS

    According to the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the June 2 election (held on a proportional basis) the Lebourists Party received 25.43% of votes and got 15 places in the city Sakrebulo, National Movement with 23.69% of votesgot 14 places.

    The following parties come next: New Rights (11.32%) got 7 places; Christian ConservativesZurab Zhvania’s Team (7.27%) – 4 places; Industrialists (7.11%) – 4 places; Agordzineba21st century (6.33%) – 3 places and Ertoba (Unity) 4.12% – 2 places.

  8. ZHVANIA'S TEAM SETS UP NEW FACTION

    Today Zurab Zhvania, the ex-speaker, and his supporters made an official statement about leaving both the party and faction of Citizens' Union of Georgia and setting up a new Democrats faction. Under the same name next week, Zhvaniaintends to form a political movement.

    Today the information has spread that the ex-speaker Zurab Zhvania and his supporters have left the faction Citizens Union of Georgia (CUG).

    Revaz Kipiani, the acting chairman of the faction, said 12 members had already left the faction.

    Yesterday in the late evening the Tbilisi district court granted supporters of Levan Mamaladze, the President's representative in the Kvemo Kartli region, the right to participate in the local elections on behalf of the Citizens Union (CU). Ex-speaker Zurab Zhvania's team has challenged this right by announcing the intention to appeal against the decision in the Supreme Court.
